Our Dallas studio took home the 2024 Firm Award from the Texas Society of Architects—TxA’s highest honor for architecture firms. This accolade celebrates the studio’s impactful work across Texas and beyond, including notable projects like the Singing Hills Recreation Center and the Baylor Scott & White Health Administrative Center. It also highlights our Dallas studio's deep commitment to social purpose, with a focus on placemaking, a long history of pro-bono projects, and a team dedicated to advancing both the industry and the community. “A local presence with a global impact, [the Dallas studio] has led the industry toward exceptional environmental performance for decades, showing that high design, healthy work environments, and carbon-neutral operations can be integrated into a single vision,” says TxA. The Malone Family Tower is a gateway to healing, rooted in place. Welcoming its first patients in June, the new tower is an 8-story addition to MaineHealth Maine Medical Center's historic campus. This building represents the culmination of a decade-long development initiative with our client to enhance patient access to hospital-based care, create more private rooms, and facilitate better patient outcomes. The Damen Green Line station at Lake Street and Damen Avenue, a major development reconnecting a Chicago neighborhood last serviced in 1948, celebrated its grand opening yesterday. "This long-awaited Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) station is a transformative achievement for Chicago’s Near West Side,” says Mayor Brandon Johnson. “This visually stunning new station will enhance affordable and convenient transportation options for residents and help attract future investments that will make Chicago’s West Side a vibrant hub of residential, retail, entertainment, and public spaces." A mural by artist Folayemi Wilson celebrates the rich history of the Near West Side's diverse communities, capturing the spirit of hope and future possibilities. This project, a collaboration with the City of Chicago, Chicago Department of Transportation, #CTA, and F.H. Paschen, is a testament to what thoughtful design can achieve.

This new sustainability standard is a game-changer for sports and entertainment venues Arenas and other large assembly venues around the world host millions of fans annually at concerts and sporting events, resulting in massive social and environmental impacts. The Olympic Games, for instance, generate an estimated 4,500 tons of waste. Until recently, owners and operators didn’t have a clear roadmap toward sustainability, making net zero operations seem out of reach. But a new platform called #GOAL (Green Operations and Advanced Leadership) is changing that. GOAL helps venues set sustainability targets, track progress in areas like water consumption and waste generation, and offers benefits like networking opportunities and access to industry experts. To kickstart the new K-12 school year, our Atlanta studio teamed up with local partners for the fourth annual Perkins&Will Backpack Bash. This year, we supported students at Continental Colony Elementary, Fickett Elementary, and Kimberly Elementary in Southwest Atlanta. Our goal? To alleviate the stress of purchasing school supplies. Thanks to the generosity of 46 partners from the design, architecture, engineering, and construction industries, we raised over $50,000 in donations. This allowed us to give more than 1,100 students new backpacks and enough supplies to last the entire school year. 🎒 ❤️ Giving back to our communities is a cornerstone of our #SocialPurpose program. We’re thrilled to have collaborated with the faculty and families of Continental Colony, Fickett, Kimberly Elementary Schools, and Atlanta Public Schools. ⭐ Our top donors include Brasfield & Gorrie, LLC, Breedlove Land Planning Inc, Andrews, Andrews, Hammock & Powell, Inc., Daltile, Carroll Daniel Construction, Conway & Owen, EQUILIBRIUM, Facilitron, Hammond & Associates, JE Dunn Construction, Mazzetti, Mohawk Group, Newcomb & Boyd, LLP, NOVA Engineering and Environmental, LLC, Shear Structural, Structor Group, Swinerton, and Total Systems Commissioning, Inc. Designing a new civic heart: True North Square transforms a downtown parking lot into a pedestrian-focused, climate-responsive development, establishing Winnipeg, Manitoba, as a premier sports and entertainment district. Our public realm design reflects Winnipeg's unique spirit, offering a range of amenities and open spaces for a year-round, 24/7 urban experience. Embracing Winnipeg’s challenging climate—famous for harsh winters and hot, humid summers—True North Square creates meaningful connections between the urban environment and its community. Enhanced access to public transit, enclosed waiting areas, and walkable design elements encourage alternative transportation. With a people-first approach, buildings are strategically designed to capture sunlight in open spaces, while the Skywalk and podia shield from the wind. This makes the square a memorable public space for outdoor activities, accommodating everything from skating and curling in the winter to concerts and farmers' markets in the summer. In this third installment of Technically Speaking, Moojan Kalbasi, a senior associate and project director in our London studio, shares her experience working on The Stage—a mixed-use scheme in the heart of Shoreditch that has revitalized a previously inaccessible part of London known for its vibrant urban culture and creative energy. As the design evolved over a decade to adapt to the changing cityscape and important archaeological finds, Moojan’s family also grew alongside its construction with the arrival of her two children. The centerpiece of the development is the Museum of Shakespeare, featuring a glass stage constructed to float above the archaeological remains of one of Shakespeare’s earliest theatres, predating The Globe. #technicallyspeaking #technicaldesign

We’re proud to be featured in Fast Company’s 2024 Innovation by Design Awards. A data-driven tool that's enhancing user experiences and an office that's setting a new precedent for sustainable interior design have both made the list! Our next-gen technology, #AreaSync, received an honorable mention in the Data Design category of the #FCDesignAwards. Developed by our Digital Practice team in partnership with our Denmark studio, SHL - Schmidt Hammer Lassen, AreaSync uses real-time insights to streamline collaboration between designers and clients. By transforming standard BIM data into actionable business intelligence, the tool enables clients to make better-informed decisions and improves project efficiency. With cloud computing and secure API integration, AreaSync is setting new benchmarks in client engagement and architectural innovation. Additionally, our design for the Greenpeace HQ in Washington, D.C. is a finalist in the Sustainability category. The project reflects the brand’s mission to combat climate change through advocacy and leadership. It serves as a prototype for climate-responsible interior fit-outs, showcasing how to reduce embodied carbon within a modest budget. The design embraces circularity, highlighting the importance of adapting and innovating for a sustainable future. Congratulations to our clients, teams, and partners for raising the bar on innovation!

Orlando, Florida is experiencing a significant transformation with a slew of new projects reshaping the city’s landscape and regional connections. Visions for Lake Eola Park and 30 South Orange are at the heart of this change, designed to enhance the city’s natural beauty and urban ecology while establishing gathering spaces. As part of the Downtown Orlando Action Plan, these early catalyst projects will help revitalize 0.8 square miles of downtown. The plan outlines new civic open spaces and the conversion of one-way streets to two-way, transforming downtown into a lively social hub. Another exciting development is the Packing District in the College Park neighborhood, designed for the Dr. Phillips Foundation. This mixed-use master planning project celebrates the area’s citrus-packing past while looking to the future. It combines historic warehouses with new amenities, including a park, YMCA, food hall, grocery store, and various residential and office spaces. Revenue from the redevelopment supports philanthropic efforts, amplifying the district's positive impact on the community. #urbandesign #landscapearchitecture #masterplanning #urbanconnectivity #orlando
