What is misothery? Akin to misogyny, author Jim Mason has coined "misothery" as the phrase describing how we "other" animals. Mason, a co-author with philosopher Peter Singer on "Animal Factories," has written a new edition of his 1993 classic, "An Unnatural Order--Roots of Our Destruction of Nature." Mason connects our "othering" of animals with racism, colonialism, and white supremacy in this conversation with Emil Guillermo. https://lnkd.in/esZewbY2 #podcast #animals #EndSpeciesism #AnimalLiberation #AnimalRights #NeverBeSilent #AnimalJustice #advocate #activism #FreedomForAll

Animals are not ours to experiment on, eat, wear, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way.
About us
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) entities have more than 9 million members and supporters globally, and PETA U.S. is the largest animal rights organization in the world. PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: in laboratories, in the food industry, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of rodents, birds, and other animals who are often considered “pests” as well as cruelty to domesticated animals. PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, and protest campaigns. PETA Foundation was founded in 1993 as an organization that helps PETA run, and includes departments like IT, Development, and Interactive Media. PETA and the PETA Foundation are two separate organizations but work very closely together. Looking for a career in animal rights? See our open positions here: http://www.peta.org/jobs.

No, they don’t really lay golden eggs—but geese do have rich inner lives, relationships, and emotions. It’s easy to see why these waddling, family-oriented birds are so beloved by parkgoers. But to the meat and fashion industries, sensitive geese are seen as merely flesh to fatten for food and feathers to steal for down. https://lnkd.in/gH67bMC7 #DownHurts #activism #activist #advocate #advocacy #animaljustice #animalliberationnow #FeatherFree #AnimalsUsedforClothing #DitchDown #DropDown

After hearing from PETA, a host of the Banana Derby has split from the notorious monkey-exploiting exhibit. While KevaWorks’ kind decision is a major victory, the monkeys used by the Banana Derby still need your assistance. Help us urge the owner to end the event and retire the monkeys to reputable sanctuaries. https://lnkd.in/ehaczwjm #NotOurs2Use #NeverBeSilent #Advocate #TakeAction #NoExcuse4AnimalAbuse #AnimalJustice #Hero4Animals #NotYourEntertainment

Tormenting and killing animals in laboratory experiments will never produce the treatments humans need. The science is clear: Using animals to model human diseases is unreliable, cruel, and pointless. Animals are sentient and value their lives just as we value ours. They have an interest in not being used in experiments that likely cause pain, always cause distress, and usually end in death. But there’s a small number of people sitting atop a small number of companies, universities, and government organizations whose wallets get fatter as live animals are used in experimentation, a practice known as vivisection. https://lnkd.in/gDyRPcDY #AnimalsUsedInExperimentation #AnimalAbuse #AnimalWelfare #AnimalRights #AnimalSafety #Vivisection #StopAnimalTests #CrueltyFree #NotAnExperiment #NotOurs2Use #Cruelty

Following news that Red Lobster has filed for bankruptcy and closed dozens of restaurants, PETA sent the chain’s CEO, Jonathan Tibus, delicious, flaky crab-free crab cakes as well as a nip of whiskey and a note encouraging him to take a shot, then give vegan seafood a shot. https://lnkd.in/ecacaHKv #lobster #bankruptcy #cruelty #VeganSeafood #FriendsNotFood #TryVegan #NotOurs2Eat #AnimalRights #AnimalJustice #GoVegan #LiveVegan #FreedomForAll

In Asheville, North Carolina, a group of about five people found two bear cubs clinging to the branches of a tree bordering the fence of an apartment complex. Instead of leaving the cubs in peace, the humans decided to torment them for their own entertainment. The humans yanked the cubs out of the tree and posed for photos with them. Naturally, the young animals appeared to be terrified. Reports stated that one cub managed to break free—running away after biting one of the humans. The other cub was found by a North Carolina Wildlife Resources biologist in a retention pond and transported to a rehabilitation facility, where the animal will stay until fully grown. Treating animals like inanimate props and using them for human entertainment is selfish and dangerous—for them and for us—and deprives them of everything that’s natural and important to them. A photo op isn’t worth causing pain or stress to an animal. https://lnkd.in/d-gRhrVz #Animal #NotYourEntertainment #NotOurs2Use #LetThemBeFree #AnimalsArentProps #AnimalRights #freedomforall #advocacy #veganeducation

Spaying and neutering are lifesavers, yet some people delay providing their animal companions with this essential care—or never have them sterilized at all—due to myths and misunderstandings. It’s time to clear those up. Preventing pregnancies tops the list of reasons to spay or neuter early. Animal shelters across the U.S. are overflowing with homeless animals, and “kitten season”—when warmer weather results in more breeding opportunities—exponentially worsens the companion animal overpopulation crisis. Rather than providing shelter, many facilities now turn away vulnerable animals, leaving them in the hands of neglectful people or on the streets, where they suffer and die in agony. Spaying and neutering stop this cycle of birth, homelessness, suffering and death. Spaying also eliminates female animals’ risk of suffering from diseases of the ovaries and uterus—including cancer—which are painful, expensive to treat and often fatal. Giving males “the snip” can protect their health by diminishing their risk of developing prostate cancer and eliminating any chance of testicular cancer. Animals who have been sterilized are also less likely to contract deadly diseases that spread via bodily fluids, including feline AIDS and feline leukemia. https://lnkd.in/eN7T_Ydq #StopAnimalHomelessness #SpayAndNeuter #adopt #protect #health #CompanionAnimals #animals #AnimalRights #AnimalJustice #lifesaver

How did PETA help pave the way for the investigation that led to the conviction of dozens of veterinarians, horse trainers, and drug distributors who were contributing to or directly involved in the abuse of horses? Not only was our exclusive footage of the tragic fatal injury of Lost in Limbo used in a segment featured on 60 Minutes, “the most successful broadcast in television history,” PETA also played a huge role in exposing the prevalence of drugging in horse racing, urged action for horses exploited for the “sport,” and was a key voice in demanding that Churchill Downs be shut down due to the many horse deaths there. https://lnkd.in/gREQZh_q #NotOurs2Use #CaptivityKills #NotYourEntertainment #HorseRacing #AnimalWelfare #AnimalAbuse #AnimalWelfare #HorseSafety
