How do we open doors for more women to thrive in green MSME jobs? “Improving and growing women micro-entrepreneurs is critical to the India growth story and to India’s climate story. No work on gender is possible without addressing social norms and Purpose has a unique opportunity to bridge the current gap in communication between policymakers and people.” Mandira Kalra Kalaan, Head of Office & Senior Campaign Director Purpose, in collaboration with WRI India, hosted a Solution Room on Enhancing Women’s Workforce Participation in Greener MSME Jobs during WRI India’s knowledge event, #ConnectKaro. Key takeaways from our expert panel? 🍃 SHIFT social and gender norms and unlock conversations with traditional power holders, such as male household heads and community leaders, to increase women’s workforce participation in formal and sustainable enterprises 🍃 INNOVATE new models of collective ownership and resource sharing to placate the burden of upfront capital investments 🍃 HARNESS technology to break market access barriers for female micro-entrepreneurs 🍃 CONTEXTUALISE vocational education and entrepreneurship training recognising differential motivations of low-income rural entrepreneurs versus urban and more digital start-ups 🍃 LINK women-led microenterprises to global and domestic supply chains to bolster sustainability measures into MSMEs Our dynamic expert panel was led by guest entrepreneurs Mamta Devi, Co-Founder, Didi Ka Papad from Begusarai, Bihar and part of SELCO Foundation’s program, along with Sonal Shukla, Co-Founder, econscious® and Women Climate Collective 2024 member. Many thanks to our panel; Mandvi Kulshreshtha, Senior Program Adviser, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, India office; Anita Sharma, Technical and Vocational Education Training Expert; Bharti Birla, Enterprise Development Specialist, International Labour Organization; Kamal Saxena, Manager, Strategy and Operations, Skill Council for Green Jobs. Our addiction to fossil fuels is putting every aspect of life on Earth at risk. The climate emergency is already here. Our planet has already warmed by around 1.2 degrees, and the devastating effects are everywhere. Climate disasters forced 30 million people to flee their homes in 2020 — three times more than the number displaced by war and violence. The case for renewables has never been stronger. We must take urgent #ClimateAction to safeguard our future. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/dp4sRGrp

Indonesia’s path to sustainability requires bold, innovative thinking—and Purpose is leading the charge. At Republika’s ESG Summit, Aldy Permana, Strategic Communications Manager at Purpose made it clear: the future of ESG in Indonesia lies in fusing local wisdom with global standards. Purpose and MOSAIC are developing pilot projects Sedekah Energy and Forest Waqf, where we’re using Islamic philanthropy to create powerful climate financing models. Now, more than ever, we need government, communities, and the private sector to join forces and scale these efforts to achieve Indonesia’s climate goals. 🌍💡Read the story: https://lnkd.in/dYekCFV9 Photos by REPUBLIKA MEDIA MANDIRI, PT #Sustainability #ESGIndonesia #CommunityDrivenSolutions

Join us at the Museum of Art and Photography (MAP), Bengaluru, on September 25 at 18:00 for an important discussion around maternal healthcare. Our Head of Office India & Senior Campaign Director, Mandira Kalra Kalaan, will be in conversation with Dr. Janhavi N., Jamuna L., and Anoushaka Chandrashekar from Aastrika Foundation to explore the challenges women face within the healthcare system and the significance of respect and dignity in maternal care. Mandira will highlight our flagship campaign, #KhudSePooche, which over the past three years has created safe spaces and fostered conversations around dignity in healthcare. By using innovative strategies, this campaign brought forward the often invisible and stigmatized issues surrounding women’s health, shame, and dignity, allowing these important conversations to flourish. The discussion will delve into the crucial role of art and culture in this work, and how trusted messengers and strengthened partnerships have been instrumental in driving the movement forward. #MaternalHealth
How can a sense of agency, care and respect influence the experience of childbirth? This panel discussion explores the importance of respect and dignity in maternal healthcare, focusing on the experiences of women during pregnancy and childbirth in India. The artwork Mother and Child 2 by Nilima Sheikh offers a powerful visual representation of the maternal experience. It depicts a mother and her newborn, appearing as if they were drawn with a single, continuous line. The larger series that this painting is a part of, captures moments of the mother holding, nursing, and steadying her child – telling of the deep bond between them. However, the subtle hints of wounds and tears on the mother’s body in this painting remind us of the physical and emotional challenges women face during childbirth. Join us for a discussion that delves into the current state of maternal care, addressing the challenges that women face in healthcare settings and the stigma that surrounds their experiences in the maternal healthcare landscape. This discussion will cover public and private sectors but with a special focus on public sector hospitals. Our panellists, Dr. Janhavi N., Mandira Kalra Kalaan, and Jamuna L, will be in conversation with Anoushaka Chandrashekar. They will also address the role of advocacy, awareness, and outreach in transforming maternity care practices.
