About us
The Protein Data Bank (PDB) was established in 1971 as the 1st open access digital data resource in all of biology and medicine. It is today a leading global resource for experimental data central to scientific discovery. Through an internet information portal and downloadable data archive, the PDB provides access to 3D structure data for large biological molecules (proteins, DNA, and RNA). These are the molecules of life, found in all organisms on the planet. Knowing the 3D structure of a biological macromolecule is essential for understanding its role in human and animal health and disease, its function in plants and food and energy production, and its importance to other topics related to global prosperity and sustainability. RCSB PDB operates the US data center for the global PDB archive, and makes PDB data available at no charge to all data consumers without limitations on usage. The Vision of RCSB PDB is to expand the frontiers of fundamental biology, biomedicine, energy sciences, and biotechnology through open and sustainable access to the 3D structure, function, and evolution of biological macromolecular data. Recognized experts in fields, including but not limited to, structural biology, cell and molecular biology, computational biology, information technology, and education serve as advisors to the RCSB PDB.

July 21 is #NationalIceCreamDay Natural antifreeze proteins purified from ocean pout have been used as a preservative in ice cream. They coat the fine ice crystals that give ice cream its smooth texture, and prevent it from recrystallizing during storage https://lnkd.in/e2rGsiZp

RCSB Protein Data Bank reposted this
On my way to Denver for a talk at the "Transactions Symposium on Structural Science: Sharing Excitement & Appreciation" at the 74th annual meeting of the American Crystallographic Association! This will be my first time at a structural biology conference and I'm super excited to connect with this community! I will only be there on Monday, so please reach out if you want to say hi. Thank you Charles Bou-Nader and Christine Zardecki for the amazing opportunity! #ACA2024 #SciArt #SciComm

Transglutaminases play essential roles in most of our cells, but they’ve also become indispensable tools in biotechnology. For example, a small bacterial transglutaminase is used to improve the texture of imitation crabmeat, hot dogs, sausages, and many other meat products. #4thofJuly https://lnkd.in/ehN9_Nmf
