Volunteers needed to assist at Lake Anne Cardboard Boat Regatta STEM Event on Saturday, August 10th from 11am to 4pm: For the past 2 years, SNAME Chesapeake has hosted a STEM activity at the Annual Lake Anne Cardboard Boat Regatta at Lake Anne in Reston, VA. This event features about 40 custom built homemade boats made entirely out of cardboard and duct tape. While the regatta races are conducted throughout the day on the lake, at our SNAME booth we engage directly with younger spectators to teach about buoyancy and basic boat building concepts challenging future engineers to design vessels which can support the greatest payload. CAN YOU HELP? The Section is seeking volunteers to participate during this Lake Anna event and help kids learn and build, as well as help spread the word about SNAME and what we do as a professional society for those in the community. Can you help?? If so please email Rich Delpizzo at [email protected].

We would like to congratulate Dr. Richard Stewart on his SNAME Fellowship. His leadership in these roles highlights his commitment to advancing maritime knowledge and practice." Please help us congratulate Dr. Richard Stewart.

Looking to showcase your brand to key specifiers, influencers and decision makers? We've reimagined the SMC Exhibit Hall this year so that it's an integral part of the overall program layout - not in a separate room/building - to maximize traffic flow and engagement opportunities. We've also built time into the agenda dedicated to visiting the Exhibit Hall. Your 8' x 8' exhibit space includes: 💠One (1) Full Conference Registration 💠Invitation to participate in Maritime Job Fair 💠Company profile on mobile app 💠Skirted table, 2 chairs, standard pipe & drape We've still got a few exhibit spaces left - contact Sue Mercer ([email protected]) today to secure your spot! The Chesapeake Section's DC area YP event this past Wednesday night (7/31) in Crystal City was a great success. Thanks to our YP Chair Candace Wiwel for organizing this event and to special guest Elizabeth Bouchard, the new SNAME Executive Director for attending and meeting our members. The event was timed to allow SNAME student members with summer internships in the DMV area as well as YPs new to the area to attend and join the Chesapeake Section. There was lively discussion and ideas for future events of interest generated.

Studying and working... but always learning and tinkering with a project. CEO of the Green Foiling Spain (GFS) university team. My main interest is the design and implementation of control systems in autonomous vessels.

I'm happy to share that I've won the SNAME Paper Contest of the West European Section. I presented our project, GFS - Green Foiling Spain , and our development in a paper titled "Design and Build of a Hydrogen-Powered and Hydrofoiling Boat." This achievement allows me to present the project at the SNAME Maritime Convention 2024. For Green Foiling Spain, this recognition highlights the potential and industry acceptance of our work. Alongside recent achievements such as the Innovation Award at Navalia Exhibition and being finalists for the FPAII Award at the Energy Boat Challenge (Yacht Club de Monaco) , this award further underscores our progress. Green Foiling Spain, a student team from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid , is dedicated to designing and building a hydrogen-powered hydrofoiling boat with the objective of competing in the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge. This will be Spain's first boat with both technologies.

    Vice-President at NETSCo

Happy to join the SNAME Great Lakes Great Rivers Section for a discussion on this important and relevant topic.

Our very own Nick Hunter, PE and Jan Flores, P.E. will present on the similarities and differences between ammonia and methanol-fueled vessels, including a discussion on the general costs and benefits versus LNG-fueled vessels. Nick was a UM Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering graduate in 2013 and has worked for Tidewater Naval Architects Inc and Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division (NSWCCD) before ending up at NETSCo. He is also the Membership Chair of this Section and has been identified as a "Great Resource for SNAME". Jan is the Vice President at NETSCo where he is focused on off shore wind and was part of a team that recently unveiled an innovative, upgraded Feeder Vessel designed specifically for the offshore wind industry.
