About us
City of Spokane has an innovative, professional and diverse workforce that is continuously working to serve our community. The City of Spokane has about 2,000 employees and operates a Mayor-Council, or “strong mayor,” form of government. The Mayor is the head of the executive branch, similar to the governor's role at the state level and the President's role at the federal level. The City Administrator, meanwhile, serves in the capacity of the City's chief operating officer. The other key elected members in our government are the seven members of the City Council, who make up the legislative branch of the City's government. The Spokane community is nestled in the stunning Inland Pacific Northwest and known for its natural beauty, entertainment, award-winning K-12 schools, and world-class colleges and universities. Spokane’s vibrant downtown core features a rich food scene and a plethora of breweries and wineries! Spokane has all the perks of a big City but without many of the big city inconveniences. With four distinct seasons the outdoor activities are limitless! There are 76 lakes within 50 miles of Spokane and 5 ski resorts within 2 hours of the City! We have 86 parks and 7 public golf courses as well as 12 conservation areas within 10 miles of downtown. With an average commute time of 19 minutes, Spokane locals spend less time commuting and more time living our lives. Our community is comprised of 29 unique neighborhoods, Spokane is truly one of the most beautiful cities in the country and a great place to live and play!

The City will receive $8 million from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) grant to establish Community Resilience Hubs for extreme weather. The infrastructure upgrades will include solar panels and battery backup at the West Central Community Center, Northeast Community Center, Central Spokane Public Library, and Liberty Park Library. https://lnkd.in/gRqACshg
The Climate Institute is very excited to announce we have been awarded $19.9 million from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to expand the work of our Climate Resilience Project in collaboration with our community partners. This grant work will be executed over the next three years and is the greatest investment in climate justice in Spokane history. We at Gonzaga University are so grateful to our partners at The Carl Maxey Center, SNAP, Spokane Public Library, and the City of Spokane for joining us in creating this application and pursuing the future work. As we are seeing unprecedented smoke and heat events with increasing frequency throughout the Inland Northwest, this investment in climate resilience could not have come at a better or more urgent time. Mayor Lisa J Brown is happy to announce Kevin Hall as the new Chief of the Spokane Police Department. From public feedback to department personnel, it was clear our community wants a leader who demonstrates character, integrity, and accountability, brings best practices to the department, and is dedicated to the safety of everyone in our community. Chief Hall is that leader and I am grateful that he has agreed to serve in this role. https://lnkd.in/d_KXnypP
