The National Guard Bureau has launched a second pilot program to offer soldiers in certain states child care during drill weekends after the first attempt launched nearly two years ago failed. About 35% of Army National Guard troops, or roughly 118,000 soldiers, have children, and about 9% are single parents. They account for 36,000 children younger than age 12. The program is free for soldiers and there is no cost to participating states. The 20 states where troops are eligible are Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin. "We left Afghanistan because two presidents as unalike as any two presidents in our history shared a goal of leaving Afghanistan regardless of the consequences. One of my best moments in Travel was seeing this play out before me. If you end up in Warsaw on August 1st, at exactly 1700, you'll witness the commemoration of the Warsaw Uprising. I wrote this piece for Stars and Stripes because I want others to learn about an integral piece of Polish history. It profoundly impacted me, and I feel like it will for many others stationed in Europe. If you head to the Uprising Museum you may even meet a few living heroes!
