Queensland's public libraries and Indigenous Knowledge Centres (IKCs) are at the heart of community life. Today, they’re also at the forefront of driving digital inclusion through the delivery of technology skills, courses and initiatives. The launch of the Digital Inclusion Planning Toolkit, a collaboration between the State Library of Queensland and QUT Digital Media Research Centre assists library and IKC staff to design research led and place-based digital programs tailored to local needs. During May, 91 staff from 30 councils attended webinars to learn more about the toolkit and share their ideas about how they plan to use it in their communities. Today is Mabo Day, part of National Reconciliation Week, marking 34 years since Mer Island man Eddie Koiki Mabo and a group of four Meriam people won their landmark court case dispelling the notion of ‘terra nullius’ and ushering the legal doctrine of native title into Australian law. In 2022, State Library commissioned ‘Hi, I’m Eddie’, a six-part audio series introducing you to the man behind the headlines, and the ten-year fight fir recognition of the rights of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the traditional owners of their land.
