For as long as I can remember "discovery" has been one of the major problems to solve in many consumer products. How do people find new stuff? Video-on-Demand leant on traditional models like channels and genre, e-com retail patterns haven't changed in over a decade, and unless you know what you want, you can often spend hours mindlessly browsing. Social media has truly entered the age of distraction, solving "discovery" by feeding you endless tiny clips based on an algorithm. The digital art market finds itself at a junction, it's both a problem and an opportunity - How do new collectors discover artists, and find art that they love? No one in the current market has solved it yet, we're all experimenting with navigation patterns borrowed from social media, e-com and retail and using terminology from the traditional art world (exhibitions), hype culture (drops) and Web3 (mint). At SuperRare Labs we're focussed on trying to improve "discovery" for this new world of digital art collecting. Starting with our search & explore view, we're using "tags" and "categories", enabling artists to label their work as they see fit and helping collectors combine search terms to find art they love. It's just the beginning as we continue to reshape the product experience with discovery at it's core. Oh and and if you do feel like spending hours browsing art, we also created a "mosaic" view, an artwork only grid, ideal for viewing artwork without the noise.
