About us
With more and more refugees displaced around the world, businesses have a critical role to play in helping refugees integrate economically in their new communities. Tent was launched in 2016 by Hamdi Ulukaya, the CEO and founder of Chobani – a multibillion dollar food company in the U.S. – to mobilize businesses across the Americas and Europe to fill this gap. Today, Tent is a network of over 400 major companies committed to helping hundreds of thousands of refugees access local labor markets by helping them become job-ready and connecting them to work. Amazing conversation with Katie Couric and Laurene Powell Jobs at Clinton Global Initiative today. We talked about the importance of coming at solutions from different angles, operating in different dimensions, the power of partnerships… This is the way forward. When Chobani first opened, I wanted to make healthy food accessible to more people. But in reopening a yogurt factory that was closing down, I saw just how linked the business was to the community… they only thrive together. Then we needed to hire people. There were refugees in Utica who could legally work but weren’t finding jobs. We hired buses and translators, did the training — and in return got some of the most dedicated people who have helped make Chobani successful. And those refugees who risked their lives to come here, they get their dignity back. They create homes. They give back to the community. What worked for Chobani will work for other businesses. With Tent Partnership for Refugees, we are scaling this model, working with over 450 companies around the world to hire, train, and mentor refugees. Take what we’ve learned in Mexico. With job opportunities, refugees and migrants would stay and work, and there are over 60 companies in Tent México eager to hire them. We are helping connect the two. This is just one example of what’s working and why businesses have to be a part of the solution. Because every time a refugee gets a job the world is a better place.

I was honored to join the U.S. Department of State ministerial meeting hosted yesterday by Secretary Blinken, Secretary David Lammy, President Ilan Goldfajn, and Børge Brende, focused on strengthening the humanitarian system. In my remarks, I shared that our model at Tent Partnership for Refugees -- focused on mobilizing large employers to hire forcibly displaced migrants -- will not be relevant in all humanitarian contexts, but it can play a critical role in countries like Mexico and Colombia with dropping birth rates, aging populations, and structural labor shortages. Major employers can be persuaded to invest in hiring forcibly displaced migrants -- benefitting the migrants, strengthening the economy, and reducing pressure on governments. But employers need greater clarity on work authorization; quicker processing of work and tax documents; greater freedom of movement for migrants, including those waiting for asylum; and greater clarity on banking regulations. Thanks to Julieta Valls Noyes for spearheading this initiative and for her relentless focus on bringing the private sector into humanitarian and displacement policy.

This #HispanicHeritageMonth, Tent Partnership for Refugees celebrates the incredible contributions that Hispanic #refugees are making to both the U.S. economy and its communities. Over the past decade, the U.S. has welcomed hundreds of thousands of forcibly displaced people from Latin America – including from Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua, and the Northern Triangle – all eager to contribute and grow professionally. 🇺🇸 🌎 Our Hispanic Refugee Mentorship Program, in partnership with the The National Hispanic Corporate Council (NHCC), has connected hundreds of Hispanic refugees with professional mentors from member companies including Bank of America, Google, Mondelēz International, TelevisaUnivision, and Uber. Through this initiative, participating employees are helping these newcomers navigate the U.S. job market, integrate into the workforce, and thrive in their new careers. This week Menzies Aviation - one of the numerous companies in the aviation sector in the Tent Partnership for Refugees network leading by example in refugee hiring and integration - ran its first ‘Allies in Aviation’ event at its London HQ in partnership with Tent UK. ✈️🇬🇧 As part of this, a special employability training session was designed to help refugees aspiring to work in the industry. Refugee job seekers from a range of backgrounds were given an insider’s look at the career routes available in aviation; a crash course on effective CV writing, interview techniques, and how to stand out in the application process; and the opportunity to team build with each other and senior leaders from Menzies. This event is just one example of how Menzies Aviation - which has set a target of recruiting refugees equivalent to 1% of its global workforce by 2026 - is showing leadership and innovation in their efforts to help refugees connect to jobs, both within its own workforce and across the industry. This month, Tent Partnership for Refugees solemnly marks the third anniversary of the fall of Kabul and the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan – a harrowing chapter for millions of Afghans. Since August 2021, nearly 160,000 Afghan refugees have sought safety and a fresh start in the U.S., yet many still face significant challenges in rebuilding their careers. Launched in March 2023, in collaboration with Hiring Our Heroes and the The Afghan-American Foundation Foundation, Tent’s Afghan Refugee Mentorship Initiative is helping to break down barriers for Afghan refugees looking to restart or advance in their careers. By harnessing the expertise and dedication of U.S. military veterans employed at leading Tent member companies like Accenture, Chobani, Hilton, Intuit, and Pfizer – we’ve provided hundreds of Afghan refugees with mentorship and guidance to reignite their careers and secure roles that truly reflect their talents, skills, and experience. Naser, one of the program’s Afghan refugee mentees, shared, “The mentorship has been incredibly valuable. It has broadened my understanding of job opportunities and the application process, aiding significantly in my job search, and in securing employment.” Discover how mentors and mentees alike have benefited from the program in this story by Laura Aka in WorkingNation, and get in touch with Tent if your company would like to get involved in supporting Afghan refugees through mentorship today. https://lnkd.in/e34_5yxq
