Smart Giving Simplified

About us

We are a community of people who believe in taking action. Our role is to help you make the most effective donations possible in the fight against extreme poverty. Since our founding in 2013, we have compiled a list of research-backed charities working on interventions against the multidimensional factors of poverty, resulting in over $100 million donated to high-impact charities. Our Story: Founded in 2013 by philosopher Peter Singer and former executive Charlie Bresler, our own history demonstrates how one person asking themselves what their individual impact can be led to positive transformation for millions of people impacted by extreme poverty. Our story begins when Charlie Bresler asked himself if and how he could make a difference in the world. A psychologist and business executive, Charlie was not a career politician or cultural influencer; but rather just a person who wanted to do something about economic inequality. Charlie picked up a copy of Peter Singer’s The Life You Can Save. Peter was a Princeton-based philosopher at the time and had written the book with the aim of encouraging everyday people to consider their moral obligation to help people living in extreme poverty. In 2013, Charlie reached out to Peter via email and prop We provide tools that make it easy for people to make smart, cost-effective and highly impactful donations. These include a curated list of evidence-based charities, a tool to help you calculate your annual recommended donation amount, and a calculator that helps donors see how far their dollars can go in the developing world. 🌟 New Recommended Charity: We’re excited to announce our newest charity recommendation: Raising The Village. Subsistence farming households in last-mile villages in Uganda earn less than US$1 a day and struggle with scarcity barriers around food, healthcare, and access to water. Raising The Village partners with these households and provides them with a data-driven and multidimensional program that helps them increase their income and meet their basic needs. Mbaruku's eyes troubled him from a young age, but his family couldn't afford the eye care he needed. By age 10, he was losing his sight, unable to see the blackboard or read. His mother, Mwajungu, feared for his future. With the help of The Fred Hollows Foundation, Mbaruku received surgery on both eyes and can now see again! They work to end avoidable blindness, ensuring everyone has access to quality eye care. There are still many children like Mbaruku who need help. Your donation can restore sight and change lives: https://lnkd.in/dPsPhDBJ

Philanthropy has historically been a driving force behind the key phases of the green transitions—from bringing down the costs of solar panels to turbocharging the development of batteries. For Australian climate philanthropists, the next big thing is decarbonising industrial emissions—globally. Giving Green found that investing in the decarbonisation of Australia’s industrial exports could be a highly promising philanthropic strategy. Australia's unique strengths—its vast solar and wind resources, abundant raw materials, and robust export market—position it to significantly reduce heavy industry emissions more cost-effectively than almost any other country. This strategy not only promises to transform Australia’s domestic heavy industry but also has the potential to slash a substantial portion of global industrial emissions through its exports. Join us for a live webinar as we dive deeper into our new findings and the subsequent search for highly effective nonprofits in this space. Register here: https://lnkd.in/edxRvyaT

Nearly half of all childhood stunting begins during pregnancy or the first six months of life—a critical period for nutrition. Jovina, a mother of four, tragically lost her one-year-old son, Blaise, to hydrocephalus, linked to malnutrition during pregnancy. Determined to make a change, Jovina learned home-based food processing techniques and began making fortified flour for her community. She formed the Glory 12 Women Group, and with Sanku's support, they installed a Dosifier for affordable flour fortification. Now, they produce enough flour to feed over 2,000 people daily. Sanku has used the Dosifier machine as part of its solution to combat malnutrition by fortifying flour with essential nutrients. By partnering with millers and providing them with Dosifier machines, Sanku has been able to reach millions of people with fortified flour, improving their nutritional intake and health. 🤝 How can you help? Sanku aims to nourish 30 million lives per day across East Africa by 2026, requiring additional support to scale country programs. By donating $50, you can provide 69 people with food-based micronutrient fortification for one year. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/dBejau4x
