Today at #UNGA79, we held the third in-person meeting of the The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) Leadership Council. This pivotal gathering focused on the Mission 300 Initiative, spearheaded by The World Bank and African Development Bank Group, with the goal of empowering 300 million Africans with affordable and reliable electricity by 2030. Leaders including Raj Shah, Woochong Um, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Ajay Banga, and Akin Adesina shared critical insights on addressing energy poverty and the urgent need for sustainable solutions. Raj Shah emphasized the importance of collective action, highlighting GEAPP's Battery Energy Storage System Consortium which is aiming for 5 gigawatts in commitments by the end of 2024. With 130 projects already in motion across 20 countries, this is set to benefit 700 million people with renewable electrification, transforming lives and making the world more prosperous, stable, and safer for everyone. During #UNGA79, The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) Leadership Council convened top global leaders to help fight the climate crisis with a wartime urgency, while at the same time scaling renewable energy solutions that are key to sustainable development worldwide. One of the key projects they support is Mission 300, an ambitious initiative to provide equitable access to clean energy for 300 million people in Africa. This effort builds on the work of the GLC over the last year, which launched a battery storage coalition with 16 first mover countries and 20 technical and finance partners to help emerging economies add renewables quickly at COP28 in 2023. #UNGA79 cannot happen in isolation. It has to be a catalyst for broader action - from increasing access to electricity for energy-poor countries to making school meals more nutritious and sustainable. That's why this week, we're bringing world leaders together to drive progress towards our goal of building a climate-resilient planet. Hear from RF EVP of Programs Elizabeth Yee who highlights what we can accomplish at this year's UNGA. Congratulations to our grantee Elemental Impact on receiving $100M allocation from the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund via Coalition for Green Capital. We're thrilled to support climate tech deployment in communities that need it most. Learn more about their impact: https://lnkd.in/dzq_EBKt
We are celebrating 15 years of investing in TWO big ways! 1️⃣We are thrilled to re-introduce ourselves as ✨Elemental Impact. In 2009, we started with seed funding from the U.S. Department of Energy and, as our portfolio has matured, so have we! Our new name reflects our expansion to an investing platform with a family of investment funds and vehicles – aligned by the singular mission to scale climate companies and projects with deep community impact… And 🥁🥁🥁 2️⃣We are launching a $100M funding program and opening applications for entrepreneurs to access capital from the US EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund. $3M to $10M in funding to build projects that deliver greenhouse gas emissions reductions with local community benefits. This is one of the first opportunities to access funding from the US EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund and is made possible through a subaward from the Coalition for Green Capital, one of over 40 funders to make our work possible. I hope you’ll help us celebrate this moment. Learn more at elementalimpact.com.
