As part of our commitment to increase childhood literacy rates The Windward Institute recently hosted free reading screenings in partnership with Yonkers Riverfront Library to help identify struggling readers in grades K-3. Nearly 30 students were screened during this pilot program. In celebration of Earth Day, TIME for Kids partnered with Take Action Global, a program that Windward recently joined that raises awareness of climate issues and encourages students to create a greener world. As part of this collaboration, they called upon students throughout the world at their 100 Climate Action Schools to submit artwork following one of these three themes: “Planet + People as Partners,” “Planet vs. Plastic,” and “Earth as an Ecosystem.” We are very proud to share that the artwork of three Windward students was chosen! #TakeActionEdu #TIMEforKids #EarthDay #TheWindwardSchool

Each year, the Windward Parents Association and Windward Alumni Office host Dream Big: Your Dreams Are Your Future. This event features prominent, inspirational speakers who share their stories about overcoming obstacles and going on to achieve their dreams. Dream Big is a reminder for our students and community that having a language-based learning disability need not hold anyone back from a lifetime of achievement. We look forward to welcoming Scott Rudin ’03, Creative Director of Ralph Lauren Agency, on May 8 for this year's event! Learn more at https://lnkd.in/eup_Vbkf

The Windward School reposted this
The Windward Institute is excited to partner with Yonkers Riverfront Public Library to provide free reading screenings to K-3 students this spring. Trained teachers from The Windward School will screen children in grades K-3 on reading and language skills. The ability to read is one of the most important predictors of academic success. Early identification and intervention reduce negative consequences of being unable to read. Families who participate will learn about their child’s reading skill development, areas of need, and considerations for school and home. Thank you to The Early Literacy Endowment for making this initiative possible. Learn more by visiting https://lnkd.in/eUZUmMWP. #Dyslexia #DyslexiaSupport #ReadingSupport #ReadingDifficulties
