TSA was created to ensure the freedom of movement for people and commerce.

About us

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was created in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks. As a component of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, we are charged with the mission to protect the nation’s transportation systems and ensure freedom of movement for people and commerce. Our highly trained, professional workforce engages its partners and the American people to outmatch a dynamic threat. We employ more than 60,000 people around the world to ensure the safety of more than 2 million passengers every day – over 750 million a year – as they travel by plane, train, automobile or ferry. TSA practices an intelligence-driven, risk-based approach to security, comprised of multiple security methods and utilizing cutting-edge technology.

  • ✈️ Are you traveling soon? You may notice new facial recognition technology at our checkpoints. Here's why this is a game-changer: ✅ Quick Verification: We are using second-generation Credential Authentication Technology (CAT-2) scanners as travelers enter the screening process. ✅ Enhanced Security: We ensure accuracy by comparing your live photo with your ID, ensuring a secure travel experience. ✅ Your Choice: This is completely voluntary. Travelers can choose to opt-out. If you opt-out, you will not lose your place in line and there will be no issue and no delay. ✅ Privacy Assured: Rest easy knowing TSA prioritizes privacy with secure handling of facial images. Facial recognition technology is used to automate the current manual ID credential checking process and will not be used for any law enforcement purpose. Want to learn more? • NEWS: TSA stopped 3,269 firearms at airport security checkpoints nationwide during the first half of 2024. “During a period of record-breaking travel volumes, our officers are working hard to keep our transportation systems secure and the traveling public safe, and any time they detect a firearm, there is a real safety concern for frontline employees and travelers,” said TSA Administrator David Pekoske. “If you carry a firearm, you are required to place it unloaded and locked in a hard-sided case in your checked bag and declare it to the airline when checking in at the airline ticket counter. Do not bring it to the checkpoint. It is costly and delays you and everyone else traveling in the same lane with you.”  Learn more at: https://lnkd.in/ebDt6GjU
