“Gender apartheid is not defined in international law, nor is it considered as part of U.S. asylum and refugee law. But it should be.” Women and girls living in Afghanistan are invisible. Since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan in 2021, they have been stripped of their human rights, freedom, and dignity. These women need to be recognized as refugees. Read the #OpEd written by USCRI Senior Vice President, AnnaMarie Bena— “To aid Afghan women, the world must define and address gender apartheid.” Click here: https://lnkd.in/dpVc8cDq #InternationalLaw #Afghanistan #GenderApartheid

So many refugees and unaccompanied children have heartbreaking experiences. Jessica and her siblings escaped abuse in Guatemala and traveled over 1,000 miles to the U.S. alone, facing challenges along the way. Stories like theirs are shared by many unaccompanied minors fleeing violence. USCRI helps these children reunite with family and access education. With your donation today, you can provide essential supplies like laptops and backpacks:https://lnkd.in/ecbcGuZG. Together, let’s make a difference. #SupportRefugeeKids #backtoschool

Seven years after the 2017 "clearance operation" that led to the #Rohingya genocide, the community still faces immense challenges in both 🇲🇲#Myanmar and 🇧🇩 #Bangladesh. With over 700,000 Rohingya displaced and living in dire conditions, it is vital that the international community steps up. Fully funding the Rohingya Joint Response Plan, supporting local NGOs, and enabling education and livelihoods for refugees are critical measures to help the Rohingya rebuild their lives. “For 500 days, in the face of massive killings, rape, starvation, and destruction, the global community—the UN Security Council and especially the African Union and Intergovernmental Authority on Development—has chosen apathy instead of action.” Today marks 500 days of relentless conflict in Sudan. USCRI calls on all warring parties in Sudan to uphold their obligations under international humanitarian and human rights law. Read USCRI’s Statement here: https://lnkd.in/eZJreH3c #sudan #refugees
