About us
United Way of Greater Houston creates opportunities for every person in our community to thrive. At the heart of our work is ensuring the safety net by providing life-saving services to meet our neighbors’ most basic needs, like food and shelter. We are here to support families and individuals when they are going through crises, like job loss, domestic violence and natural disasters. And, we create a pathway to self-sufficiency and success for our neighbors and our community. We provide the tools, resources and education for families to achieve financial stability and independence, for children to succeed in school and in life and for veterans to rebuild their lives after returning from service. Every day of the year, 24-hours a day, we are the voice of help and hope for those who call our 2-1-1 Texas/United Way HELPLINE. And, we bring stakeholders and our community together to address the most pressing needs in our area, improving the quality of life for everyone in our region. We do it all strategically, transparently and with a focus on results. Join us. www.unitedwayhouston.org

Due to inclement weather, the United Way of Greater Houston office on 50 Waugh and our regional service centers will be closed on Monday, July 8. The 211 Texas/United Way HELPLINE will remain open 24 hours a day to connect you with assistance and resources related to Beryl or other needs. We encourage everyone to prepare for potential power outages and flood conditions as Beryl makes its way through our region.

Thank you, SLB, for your inspiring campaign and outstanding support as a member of our Million Dollar Circle. SLB raised a remarkable $1.2 million for United Way during their last campaign, $607,000 of which came from their special events held throughout the year. The SLB team also gave back by clocking a total of 7,788 volunteer hours. Your generosity and commitment to our work helps us connect more people to possibility, and we are so thankful for your continued support.

As Hurricane Beryl signals a busy hurricane season ahead, many of our neighbors are still dealing with the aftermath of the last disaster. I’m so proud of the work United Way of Greater Houston and Greater Houston Community Foundation are doing to help the most vulnerable among us rebuild and recover from recent storms. #HoustonStrong #RebuildandRecover #DisasterAlliance

Thank you, Service Corporation International, for a great campaign! They raised more than $1.29 million for our communities. Employees also volunteered at the Wesley Community Center and played bingo with seniors and served breakfast. They helped distribute food to more than 300 families at ECHOS. Thank you, SCI, for your support. Together, we’re connecting more of our neighbors to possibility. 💙 And now that summer has officially started, we want to encourage people to follow SCI's lead and volunteer with us and with our nonprofit partners. The forecasts are in: The 2024 hurricane season is predicted to be above normal, and the greater Houston region must prepare accordingly. While nobody knows for certain how many of these predicted storms will form and where they will go if they do, keeping supplies on hand and a plan in place early can help you and your family stay safe should a tropical storm or hurricane threaten our region. Learn more about how the Greater Houston Disaster Alliance is working to promote readiness and recovery at disasteralliance.org.
