    Far too often, hiring managers can find themselves in long and fruitless hiring cycles if tactical hiring strategies are not clearly defined in advance. Jeff Davis, Vice President at Vaco, has partnered with countless hiring managers to attract top talent. Are you about to launch a hiring search for a key member to add to your team? Make sure you follow these 8 steps before you publish your job opening ⬇️ 1. Do your research and select an accurate job title. Most candidates are title-driven and knowing that they are progressing their career may be an important motivating factor in their search. 2. Provide an overview of the company. Nail down your organization’s selling points, including recent funding or recognitions, new or exciting leadership additions, and your values/mission. 3. Be sure to include why the role is open on your team. Is it due to attrition, growth, or internal promotions? The latter two reasons can be compelling attractors to top talent. 4. Responsibilities for the role should be specific, and it’s helpful to include a breakdown of responsibilities as a percentage of time. Let them know what they will be doing daily, weekly, monthly, etc. How much of their role will be transactional versus strategic? 5. Break down the necessary hard skills and soft skills that the ideal candidate will possess. What experience or qualifications are important to be successful? What soft skills set a well-qualified candidate apart? 6. Have a clear idea in mind of the must-have and nice-to-have qualities of your ideal candidate. Delineate between which skills or systems are required versus preferred. 7. Be transparent about the organization structure. Who will this person report to, and how many people will they manage? Describe the broader team, as this can help candidates determine if they’re suitable in your current size and structure. 8. Last but certainly not least, compensation. Transparency on pay is crucial in today’s job market. The best candidates want to know upfront that they are applying to a role that can pay their worth. By not setting clear expectations on the front end, you can end up at the end of a hiring cycle before realizing that the salary and the candidate’s expectations aren’t in alignment.
