Wise is renovating and modernizing lecture halls within Harvard University's Science Center building, which collectively seats over 600 students 🏫 🎒 In order to tackle each auditorium's traditional downward slope and high ceilings, Wise has erected scaffolding and assembled a large temporary platform, also known as a “dance floor", which allow our field staff to work #safely and #efficiently at these heights. Superintendent Tom Upton comments: “This project has been the accumulation of a complete team buy-in across the board. From our months of preconstruction efforts and weeks of pull planning with Tom Richert and our trade partners, we took a nine-day procurement delay and turned it into a net zero loss. These auditoriums are the heart of Harvard’s campus, and we are looking forward to turning them over for the faculty and students returning this Fall.” Wise is currently in the middle of framing, assembling a new custom AHU, electrical and lighting upgrades, installing acoustical ceiling panels, refinishing wall panels, updating AV infrastructure, and various other MAAB upgrades. In addition to the challenging scope, this project is a true “Summer Slammer” as it must be completed before the start of the 2024 Fall semester. Dartmouth Health is expanding its ambulatory outpatient department, with Wise leading the two-floor addition👷♂️🏥 This expansion will add medical/exam rooms, a nurse station, equipment/storage rooms, a new CT, and a new linear accelerator (LINAC) vault. The LINAC vault increases the project’s complexity due to the detailed construction requirements needed to maintain safe levels of radiation exposure and ensure optimal protection for surrounding individuals. The scope of work for the 7,000 SF project focuses on enclosing the LINAC machine for everyone's safety. Wise broke ground in early May and is currently completing the rebar footings to reinforce the exterior walls of the new addition, with concrete pouring scheduled in the coming weeks. Despite ongoing construction, the ambulatory facility remains active and occupied. Therefore, the interior work is being carried out during off-hours and early mornings. Inside the existing facility, piping is being reworked in preparation for integrating MEP systems into the new expansion while we infill exterior windows that will become interior walls. Wise is working swiftly to accomplish a weathertight deadline by the end of November. Stay tuned for updates on this unique and exciting project! Wise Construction is excited to announce the recent completion of Newton-Wellesley Hospital’s Fifth Floor, East Wing. In collaboration with Newton-Wellesley Hospital, Colliers Project Leaders | USA, Keel Project Management, Perkins&Will, and BR+A Consulting Engineers, we transformed a 20,000 SF space into a state-of-the-art Medical Surgical Unit, bringing 24 new patient beds online. Through strategic pull planning, lean construction practices, and twice-weekly onsite reviews with project designers, we overcame significant challenges and reduced the construction schedule by over 25%. Implementing zone-based workflows, facilitating rapid problem-solving, and ensuring continuous alignment among trade partners and designers, we achieved substantial completion by April 5, 2024, enabling the hospital to prepare the space for patients by May 20. We invite you to watch our video featuring interviews with project team members Teresa Wilson, AIA, ACHA, LEED AP, Justin Ferbert, Ronald Gorham, John Dasilva, and Brenden Lydon, discussing design considerations for improving patient and staff experiences, building for the community, streamlined processes, working in a hyper-collaborative environment, and the exceptional teamwork on site. This project is a testament to the dedication, innovation, and collaborative spirit of everyone involved. Our ability to adapt, plan strategically, and manage daily operations effectively underscores the strength of our partnerships and our commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes with respect for one another.
