Choosing the right giving vehicle, whether a DAF, LLC, private foundation, or some other tool, can be challenging. At Arabella, we ground our clients in three primary design principles: 1) Form should always follow function. 2) Aim to create the minimum viable structure. 3) Consider whether it’s important to you to preserve flexibility. For more considerations that can guide you in determining how best to use the various vehicles at your disposal, see this recent piece by Jessica Robinson Love and Drew Rabe: https://ow.ly/3ULV50RJpCo

Feeling overwhelmed by the (self) reported successes of others? *Please* 🙏 remember that you're rarely seeing the whole story. It doesn't matter if you're raising money or a entrepreneur slugging it out for enough income to replace your old company salary. - - - - - Precision Hawk raised over $130M in 9 funding rounds. Read their website, consume their press, look at their promotions - a *HUGE* success story, right? If you're raising funding, you might have been looking at them and wondering "what are they doing right that I'm not doing"? On 12/15/23, they apparently filed for bankruptcy protection. Turns out, probably not doing as much right as it looked like they were... 🤔 - - - - - Don't dismiss this. Scroll through your feed and ask how many posts make you feel "less than". Not the learning ones where you're discovering new opportunites. The "here's how I got / made / created / earned / built...." kinds of posts. The ones that make you think "what am I doing so wrong" or "why can't I get *that* kind of result. Then think about this: 💡 **Your efforts are (very likely) unrelated to successes you read about.** What "works" for them may not work for you. 👉 If that's true, there's no reason to compare yourself to them. - - - - - As you reflect on 2023, I invite you to think about: 1. What successes you experienced this year (big, or small) 2. What you tried this year 3. What brought you a sense of satisfaction (even if it didn't have the results you are looking for) Then ask what you'll do next. What one thing can you try that will make everything else just a little bit easier? And...if it doesn't work, will help you have more information about what to do next. What might happen if you step away from the noise and plan some next steps based on what *you* need, not on what somebody else says you should do? 👣 #entrepreneurship isn't easy because you're not doing the same thing as everyone else. It requires a different #leadershipmindset And that's not something anybody else can give you. Don't worry about comparing yourself to them. It's your journey, not theirs. Right? https://lnkd.in/eMYzEhCH

Making a video isn't always easy peasy! It took Bill and myself a little while, like a week or so, and here it is! This is Ravenwolf Marine's official pitch video that is associated with our current WeFunder campaign. This is my first jaunt into #EntrepreneurshipLife, and, it's definitely had an impact with overcoming some of my #socialanxiety. That is a huge step for anyone. It takes guts, it takes courage. For me to overcome such a thing, being filmed is a ginormous step. Especially when I start sharing such things to a wider audience. Did you know that many #entrepreneurs are #ADHD? Richard Branson comes to mind. Many of us have overcome obstacles to get where we are today. With the advent of social media platforms, such things have been factors in propelling aspiring content creators, artists, and small business owners forward in reaching their goals. These platforms are a vehicle for spreading awareness, sharing dreams, and supporting family and friends through good times and hardship. Join me in the next chapter of Ravenwolf Marine's adventure! Own a chunk of the Den-Dry brand. We are looking for an 'Angel' to step forward and make this dream a reality! There are Angel Investors everywhere. Are you one of them? Help push this campaign to a wider audience. We need to raise, on our own, $50,000 before WeFunder will show our campaign to bigger investors that can help propel Ravenwolf Marine into the future. That's right; it's Bill and me, the one and only Wolfie <3 Look at all that Den-Dry behind us! Help us FILL our warehouse to capacity and ensure that every boat and RV out there is outfitted with Den-Dry. https://lnkd.in/eGn8ZAZp #SupportSmallBusiness #ShopSmall #Entrepreneur #Business #BusinessGrowth #StartupLife #Ecommerce #Crowdsourcing #Crowdfunding #StartupFunding #CrowdfundingCampaigns #InvestmentCampaigns #WeFunder #StartEngine #InvestmentOpportunity #Opportunity #Opportunities #DenDryRWM #RavenwolfMarine #BanishBunkFunk #RWM #GotBunkFunk

This is Richard Pearse. His claim to fame? The inventor and pilot of the first* powered flight, on the Canterbury Plains in 1903. He beat the Wright brothers by 9 months. Unfortunately, that’s where the comparison ends. The Wright brothers founded “The Wright Company” which in 1916 merged with “The Martin Company”. The name Martin is the Martin in Lockheed-Martin, one of the US’s leading Aerospace companies and an S&P500 constituent. Richard Pearse ended up moving to Milton in Otago in 1911, where it was too hilly to fly – so he stopped. Much of his experimental equipment was thrown away, but he still kept innovating. In the 1930s and 40s (presumably trying to solve for the hilly country) he was working on a short-takeoff convertiplane with a tilting rotor and folding wings, which you can see in MOTAT today. He passed away in 1953, with the most successful business venture of his career having been building three houses in Christchurch and living off the rentals. This parable is an interesting one for New Zealand innovation. We’re incredible innovators – Pearse, Rutherford, Britten, Hamilton – but often, our innovation is commercialized somewhere else by someone else. Much of our capacity to innovate is housed in the group of companies I talked about the other day – that’s why #ID2070 is focused on unlocking light-weight knowledge led exports for them. If we can do that, the knowledge jobs we’ll create and the momentum we’ll foster will more than solve our economic growth challenges. We don’t need to have the Wright Brothers – we just need to create the conditions where our modern-day Richard Pearses are encouraged to create economic success. *First is a somewhat contested claim. Clément Ader flew 50m 20cm above the ground in 1890, and the Wright Brothers had three-axis controls for their aircraft. Pearse’s claim is as good as any, though. It's a testament to the enduring allure of property investment, even for those with lofty ambitions, here in Aotearoa New Zealand.
