What a brilliant interview to watch if you are at the beginning of your career in the property industry. Our CEO, Guy Gittins talks about his incredible journey through the world of estate agency and shares some of his most useful tips that lead him to become one of the most successful leaders in the real estate business. A common theme in this insightful discussion was the brilliant training and support we have to offer to all our employees, and I am genuinely excited to see how far all the candidates I have recruited for Foxtons go in their property careers! #foxtons #realestate #londonproperty #wegetitdone
I had a hugely enjoyable sit down with the UK's Chief Youth Officer, Jack Parsons where we discussed my journey through estate agency and my advice to anybody looking to get into the property industry, or about to take the leap from education into the working world! From the power of confidence and where I found mine, to some very wise words from my mum on a rainy evening, that totally transformed my early mindset… Hard-won lessons in my early days at Foxtons were so pivotal in my career that I use them to this day in my work with Foxtons and Alexander Hall. If anyone in your network would benefit from the lessons learnt over 20 years at the sharp end of the property world – please share! https://brnw.ch/21wGm22

"The business has a family feel"... which family? The Waltons? The Shelbys? The Fritzls? Probably as hollow as statement as "we only work with the best candidates". Describing the culture of a business is tricky. But giving people a really clear & accurate understanding that they can see and feel is really helpful when it comes to attraction and retention. It helps people connect to the business and the brand. It helps them map themselves into the picture before they start. Being as specific as you can is worth the time and effort.

Aw bless 19-year-old me working at Dixons in Croydon. What a waste of time... It's easy to get caught up in spending time reflecting on things we've done in the past. It feels good sometimes right? There's nothing wrong with it unless it gets out of hand. The posts on my Facebook feed that seem to get the most activity are when people publish pictures of Commercial Road in Portsmouth from the 80's - and everyone bangs on about how great things were back then, and how awful they are now. 🤣 People seem to enjoy comparing 'then' to 'now' and spending time going on about the difference. But - is it helpful? If you're reminiscing because it feels nice - yes that's a great way to spend time if that's what your aim is. My view - and it may be unpopular - is that what I did years ago has little impact on the person I am today, unless... 💥 We take time to consider what we've learned 💥 Decide how we want to show up today 💥 Consider the impact we have on people TODAY In the Continue & Begin® course, we talk about '20-20's. These are the people in your business who have been here 20 years, but they don't have 20 years of experience. Instead, all they've done is repeat year one 20 times, but they've never developed. And their claim to fame? 🙌🏻 "I've been here 20 years!" 🙌🏻 (You know you've got someone in mind already haven't you?) ✅ Anyway - that 19-year-old there in that picture, is about to make a ton of mistakes, and get things wrong. Luckily, I've learned from some of 'em. 🫣 A good one is... 'never get blonde streaks in my hair again - just because everyone else is doing it!' What do you think? #learning #history #reminiscing #growth

Probably not. Love or hate him, Carmelo Anthony wasn't known for making his teammates better. He consistently had a high usage rate and a relatively low assist rate. Layman’s terms – he had the ball a lot and didn’t pass often. Friedman Vartolo LLP has had our share of Carmelos. Once, we had an employee who could do the work of three individuals but had a horrible attitude, and no one wanted to work with her. When we were smaller, it worked. She filled the needs of a three-person team on her own. As we grew and the department had to grow, we found that every individual paired with her suffered and could not progress. The reality is that when you’re a smaller company, you may be able to survive a negative individual or two. As you grow, those negative people become more harmful because they impact more people. At Friedman Vartolo LLP, we’re always looking for great workers, but we’re even more concerned with finding people capable of being a part of a great team. #GreatEmployeesAreGreatGreatTeamsAreGreater #FVAbsolutes #SuccessFollowsCulture #SuccessIsNotAnIsland #FriedmanVartolo

This used to annoy the heck out of me. When I was MD of Drayton Mannor, particularly in the earlier days of the role, I would get ignored at events or meetings, if my Grandad (Founder of Drayton) was in the room. Despite him stepping down, people still saw him as the gaffa and would pretty much carry on with him, as if I wasn't there. This 'transition' took years... literally years. So I know exactly what it feels like to be part of a succession process, I know how frustrating it can be to feel like you're invisible in a room, or just not listened too. It can have a huge impact on your ability to lead! #FamilyBusiness #BeABetterFamilyBusiness
