31st of May 🤯 This month has had some more subtitling work than usual, so it's been nice to work on non-medical topics. Here's what I've been up to: 🔴 Reviewing some brand-new content for Easy Catalan, due to be released soon! 🎞️ Subtitled a short film from Spanish to English about a man's experience of political imprisonment. 🔍 Reviewing content for a famous bookseller-turned-everything-seller 👀 🌺 Subtitled some Agricultural Engineering and Biology video content for a regular client. 💋 Did some subtitling and translation work on some adult material for an old client. ⚕️ My usual medical report work! 🏥 A large Catalan to English translation project of a hospital's 5-year strategy plan. 💊 Clinical trial documentation (which I've not had the chance to work on very much before, so this is a breath of fresh air!) After my post about CPD, I was given lots of great suggestions. So this month I've also started the Fundamentals of Medicine for Translators and Interpreters course on TranslaStars ⭐ (thanks Alexandra Craddock for the tip!) ✅✅✅✅✅🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 #xl8 #translator #litranslator #medicaltranslation #audiovisualtranslation

🎧Interpreter for multilingual events | English and Spanish to Russian | Face-to-face, hybrid, remote (Remote Simultaneous Interpreting, RSI) | AIIC Pre-Candidate | Translator, editor, proofreader.
🔍 Are you looking for an #interpreter for your event or meeting or a #translator to translate a document or website? It's not always an easy task, especially in unregulated markets like the UK. This is where professional associations can help. Here is how you can find them. FIT - International Federation of Translators - Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs currently has 107 active Regular member associations from 66 countries. To check what professional associations are available in each country, go to the FIT Directory (https://lnkd.in/gDWNDJPQ) and choose the required country. You will see a list of associations, unions, institutes, etc. that represent professional interpreters and translators all over the world. Each of them would have their own rigorous procedures to check the qualifications and professionalism of their members. Each of them will also have directories of members where you can look for an interpreter, translator or proofreader for a required language. I will give you a few examples. 📝 Institute of Translation and Interpreting (UK). Search their directory - https://lnkd.in/gxtQFijb. 📝 Asetrad (Spain). Search their directory, including proofreaders - https://lnkd.in/gj7YFetV. 📝 American Translators Association (USA). Search their directory - https://lnkd.in/gS9i8D7W. Give it a go and let me know how easy it is to find a professional. Happy searching 🌞 #ConferenceInterpreter #RussianInterpreter #RussianTranslator ---------------------- ☀️ I am Natalia, but people also call me Natasha. 🚀 Helping you build meaningful connections. 🚀 Interpreting English<>Russian, Spanish > Russian, face-to-face, remote; at business meetings, fora, conferences, trainings, workshops, etc. 🚀 Translating, editing, and subtitling your content from English and Spanish into Russian. 🚀 Certified translations and legalisation of documents. Translation vs Interpreting I can't count how many times I've watched films and TV shows where interpreters are referred to as translators. It's a common mix-up! When I mention that I'm a translator, people tend to assume I'm an interpreter. So imagine my delight when I was watching Ghosts the other day and Mike got it right 🙌 😃 Here’s the difference: ✍️Translation = conversion of written texts from one language to another. 🗣️Interpreting = oral or signed conversion from one language to another in real time. 🎬 And just to add a twist, there's also audiovisual translation, which is the conversion of audiovisual content from one language to another, e.g. through subtitling and voice-over. Most translators are not interpreters. The two professions require different skills and training, so it's important to hire the right people for the right jobs. Who else has encountered this mix-up? 👇 ----- 👋 I'm Megan, an Environmental Translator and Subtitling Specialist. 🇧🇷🇪🇸🇫🇷 Portuguese, Spanish & French to English. 🇬🇧 Need help captivating English-speaking audiences? 📧 I’d love to hear from you! meganoneiltranslations.com [email protected] #Translation #Interpreting #Subtitles #AudiovisualTranslation

December and 2023 Round-up First thing's first, Happy New Year! I've just got back from a week of seeing family in Spain, so my batteries are fully recharged and I'm ready to get back into action. With my holidays and other things just before leaving, I didn't have time to get my December round-up ready for the end of the month, so here it is: ⚕️ Lots of medical translations from various clients, ranging from medical reports to clinical trial documentation. 🔎 Regular review projects of academic articles and clinical trial documents. 🎞️ Not much subtitling this month, but a few things from regular subtitling clients. 📄 I've had a few direct clients get in touch for various document translations (birth certificates, academic transcripts, medical reports etc.) 2️⃣ 0️⃣ 2️⃣ 3️⃣ Looking back, 2023 has been a great year for me as a translator. I have a solid base of regular clients and often get contacted by new faces. I can also now say that the majority of my workload is in medical translation - although I still do get subtitling work through. A glance at my Notion database tells me that in 2023 there were: ☑️ Over 688,000 words translated/reviewed ☑️ Over 700 minutes worth of subtitling ☑️ 8 new clients It may not seem like much, but as they say, comparison is the thief of joy! I'm very proud of what I've achieved this year, and I'm grateful that I work in a field where I can learn something new every day. Let's see what's in store in 2024. 🥳 ✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅ #xl8 #translator #litranslator #medicaltranslation #audiovisual

Freelance Translator | English, Spanish, French > Italian | Marketing, Travel & Tourism, Education, Subtitling, SEO
"Oh, you’re a translator! That is so difficult! As I speak 2 languages, I find it so hard to “translate” when my friends ask me to do so because they don’t understand what’s being said! You must be quick and remember it all!" This is what I was told last week by a Dutch girl who speaks Dutch and English and has many international friends, who often ask her to “translate” what Dutch people say in real-time. But this is not a translator’s job! I often meet outsiders who think I “translate” oral speech simultaneously as part of my everyday work life. And maybe this is the most common misbelief about the translation profession. JUST TO MAKE IT CLEARER: - translators: their output is written text; - interpreters: their output is oral or signed. And I prefer to focus on output rather than input, as audiovisual translation may pose a further challenge for those struggling to understand the difference between the two professions (e.g.: even when translating for dubbing, the translator’s direct output is a written text; and even when interlingual subtitlers have to work from the audiovisual input itself, without any script, their direct output is written text as well). #translationservices #translation #interpreting #litranslators #freelancetranslator

The most interesting translation job I did last year involved translating correspondence between family members dating back to 1918. The letters were written in German by people based in cities that are now in Czechia. Luckily, I didn’t have to decipher the handwriting – it had already been transcribed for me. I really enjoyed reading the letters and getting an insight into the lives of these people from so long ago. As you can imagine, the living conditions after the First World War were mentioned, but the focus was on family matters such as marriage and children. These were the main challenges I faced: 1. Finding a tone that was not too formal, as they were family members, but not too informal, because that could come across as modern 2. Avoiding modern vocabulary and phrases that would feel out of place for the time period 3. Choosing greetings to open and close the letters that were appropriate for the time period and didn’t sound too forced in English (I felt I had to make them slightly less effusive!) 4. Understanding regional vocabulary – the German transcriber’s comments and, interestingly, my half-Austrian background helped with this Overall, I worked hard to achieve a faithful translation, because the client ultimately wanted to understand what her family had been writing about, but also one that created a natural-sounding voice for the family members. This job was such a fascinating challenge to get stuck into and I would love to translate something similar again sometime! What’s the most interesting or unusual translation job you’ve done? … I’m Anna – a freelance translator living in Nottingham. I translate from German and French into English, and also offer proofreading and machine translation post-editing. My specialist areas are law, finance and international development cooperation, but I also enjoy something a little different from time to time! Connect or send a message if you’d like to find out more about my services or just talk about translation! #translation #freelance #german
