Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day! 12-year-old Kadija from Sierra Leone was born with an upper limb difference – but her life was transformed after she received a prosthetic. “I can use my [prosthetic] hand to chop onion and do a lot of things. It helps me greatly.” Her mum never thought that Kadija would be able to do the things that other children do. But with her prosthetic hand, which offers a range of tools, Kadija can play with her friends, help her mother with chores, and most importantly, write and draw as she pursues her dream of becoming a lawyer. Our team in Sierra Leone has been creating and sharing these stories of change to improve accessibility for more girls like Kadija – hear more about her story here. 👉 https://bbc.in/3V1aPEU #GAAD #GlobalAccessibilityAwarenessDay #Accessibility

403,004 children (33.9 %) are living in risk of poverty or social exclusion in Bulgaria. Children from marginalised communities, including many Roma, and children with disabilities are among the ones currently placed in out-of-family state sponsored care due to the persisting failure to apply the ‘necessity principle’ in child-family separations. There is a serious discrepancy between the general child poverty rate and that of children from different ethnic backgrounds – 37.5% children of Turkish and 69.4% of Roma backgrounds are growing up in poverty. #Roma #childrights #poverty

Justice and safety can look different for each immigrant survivor of gender-based violence. That’s why, at the Tahirih Justice Center, we center the whole person and focus our assistance around our clients’ expressed needs. By providing free legal representation and social services, our goal is to make sure survivors and their families feel supported every step of the way. We offer research-based training and education programs to attorneys, doctors, and other frontline professionals because we believe immigrant women, girls’ and all survivors of violence deserve access to trauma-informed services. And we advocate - at every level - for policies that protect immigrants’ rights and create humane pathways to safety. When we create a safer world for immigrant survivors, we are creating a safer world for everyone. Learn more about our work and how to get involved here: https://lnkd.in/gC2K73Ru

Empowering Children's Rights: Reflecting on International Children's Day! 🌟👧👦 On this International Children's Day, we must acknowledge that the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is yet to become a widespread reality. Family separations persist at the border, and indigenous families are still awaiting reparations for the atrocities of residential schools. It is a stark reminder of the work that lies ahead. Today, why not seize the opportunity with your little ones to explore the child-friendly version of this internationally ratified document? Engage them in conversations about their needs, desires, and the ways adults can honor and uplift children's rights. As we celebrate the boundless potential and innocence of children, let's also recognize our shared responsibility to protect and nurture them. Together, we can create a world where every child's rights are respected, where their voices are heard, and where their dreams can flourish. #InternationalChildrensDay #ChildrensRightsMatter #EmpoweringTheNextGeneration

Today, 16th May, 2024, as we commemorate International Day of the Boy Child, it's imperative to delve into the multifaceted realities faced by boys across the globe. Amidst celebrating their achievements and potential, we must also confront the harsh realities of their vulnerabilities. Boys, like their female counterparts, are not immune to the scourge of rape, child abuse, and gender-based violence. These issues often lurk in the shadows, overshadowed by other narratives, yet they persist, impacting the lives of countless boys. From the intimate confines of their homes to broader societal contexts, boys can find themselves subjected to various forms of mistreatment, sometimes even by those they trust the most. This stark reality underscores the urgent need for heightened awareness and proactive measures to safeguard the well-being of all children, regardless of gender. By amplifying our voices and advocating for change, we can challenge entrenched stereotypes and societal norms that perpetuate cycles of violence and oppression. Let us foster a culture of empathy, understanding, and respect, where every child feels empowered to thrive in a safe and nurturing environment. On this International Day of the Boy Child, let's reaffirm our commitment to creating a world where every child's rights are upheld, their voices heard, and their futures protected. Together, we can build a brighter tomorrow for all. #InternationalDayoftheBoyChild #ChildProtection #GenderEquality
