🇮🇹 ⚽ Hey SSC Napoli fans! Let's send our positive vibes to international goalkeeper, Alex Meret, who unfortunately tore his hamstring in last week's tough 0-0 draw against AC Monza. 😔 Let's take a look into the stages of his hamstring rehabilitation journey. 1️⃣ Immediate Care: Alex will undergo initial treatment to reduce swelling and pain. It's still pretty typical for professional teams to subscribe to the RICE protocol, but we're starting to hear more about the transition to PEACE (something we've wrote about in the past, but easy to look up). 2️⃣ Rehabilitation Plan: Napoli's sport medical team will design a personalized rehab plan focusing on maintaining his cardiovascular health as best as possible (perhaps in the pool or upper body ergometer), as well as exercises to regain mobility, strength, and proprioception in the injured hamstring. Physical therapy sessions will be intense (hello, Nordics)! 3️⃣ Gradual Return to Activity: As Alex's condition improves, he'll load the area gradually while reintroducing light training and goalkeeping drills to ensure a safe and effective comeback. 4️⃣ Team Training: Once he's medically cleared, Alex will rejoin full team training, sharpening his skills and syncing up with the squad. 5️⃣ Match Fitness: The final step involves specific drills and simulated match scenarios to ensure he's match-fit and ready to return to the field. 🤔 Predicting the Return: While predicting recovery timelines isn't an exact science, there's cautious optimism about Alex returning to action within 6-8 weeks. The club will prioritize his health, ensuring a return when he's fully prepared. Interested in improving rehabilitation adherence and return to sport outcomes for injured professional footballers? We are looking for professionals with expertise in working with injured male professional footballers based in the UK to participate in a PhD research study. The study aims to explore the provision of psychological support for injured male professional footballers. To then develop intervention strategies that work within the applied environment and can improve players' injury experiences and rehabilitation behaviours. We are looking to collect insights from those working directly with the injured players. The research will be conducted using the Delphi method, which involves a series of questionnaires (rounds) aimed at first achieving understanding and then consensus on the given topic. Participation would involve completing these questionnaires. The time commitment for each questionnaire will vary but should range from approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
