There’s nothing like women celebrating each other. Last week I had the honor of recognizing some of the most incredible business women in the Twin Cities! As one of the 50 honorees, I sat in awe as the emcee read the receipts for each person. The brief sentences listing accomplishments, awards, scale, and impact didn’t even scratch the surface of what it took to get to that room. RISKS. Carefully calculated risks. 💰There are the scary ones like financial risks to launch a business in an industry with very few of us. 📣Quiet personal ones like debating how I’m going to show up at the risk of being “too much” or “not enough.” ⏰Nagging ones like time risks. If I spend it on my career, will I run out of it with my family? What do I risk giving up if my time is “spent.” 🏃🏾♀️And the biggest risk of all. Ourselves. Do we believe in ourselves enough to take the leap? In reality, women business owners and leaders are the best budgeters. We are meticulously simultaneously mitigating and accumulating risk every second of everyday. The net profit of all that mathing is impact, profitability, and true leadership. March is women's history month. An article posted by Forbes magazine showcases women in leadership positions taking charge of women's empowerment in the workplace. This post highlights 10 ways these women are paving the road to equality within the workplace for future generations. Instead of just listing their accomplishments, this article discusses how the advice from these women has inspired other women. HCA's Taylor Linke, MBA, LSSBB, Director of IT Innovation and Customer Experience, joined a panel of four female leaders at "Women Transforming Government: Leading in times of transition." She and the panelists talked about strategies for leading change in organizations and lessons learned. Other panelists included representation from the Employment Security Division, Department of Enterprise Services, and the City of Seattle. Change is an ever-present part of life and work. As women leaders, we are faced with many types of transitions, workforce changes, and ever evolving technologies. Taylor shared, "It is our duty to be responsive to those changes, and it is our opportunity to be transformative in the way we approach those changes. For me, keeping the focus on people is at the heart of all change." #womentransforminggovernment

Why aren't there more women in CEO roles, especially Black women? Cue a chorus of responses: "They've never called me!" It's not as complicated as this report by Russell Reynolds Associates makes it out to be. In another report by Coqual (formerly Center for Talent Innovation), Black women business leaders, in particular, are ready to lead but have been ignored by executive recruiters and corporate talent teams for decades, which is why so many of them, me included, decide to start their own businesses. According to Forbes, "Black women started companies at over four times the overall population rate." This is a heck of a lot of capable talent completely ignored by the mainstream of corporate recruiting and talent advancement. It's time to call out corporate leaders, recruiters, and talent management professionals who keep fishing in the same pond expecting a different kind of catch. #inclusionmatters #womenmatter #dowhatmatters #dei

"[Women are] half the population. We are consumers, we are buyers, and we have a valuable unique perspective. Some of the things we’ve heard from the CEOs who have added diverse candidates, who’ve added women, who have added independent board members, is that it helps them think more long term than short term. It’s important to make sure we are not shaping our future based on a single lens. It helps employees see themselves in that board member. It helps that the board think about policies differently as it relates to things like compensation or leave. It brings an operator’s point of view. Oftentimes in many private companies, on a board you’ve got a CEO or founder and a series of investors who are all smart people, but the CEO is looking for guidance and partnership around operating talent.
