A returning client asked me an interesting question last week. ‘I know we have worked together before, but I'm hoping you recruit for finance roles too?’ I had the privilege of working with this client previously on a director level role but in a different discipline. As they said, there are several recruitment consultancies and agencies that work exclusively in the finance recruitment space, but they wanted to come to us first because we knew them, we “got them”. We knew how the charity functioned, how the team worked together, the values of the organisation and what it would take to thrive with them. But do we work in the finance space? The simple answer was yes! And I had multiple tangible examples of director level, Head of and a Manager role in the last 6 months to give as examples. Over 80% of our business is repeat/based on recommendations, and giving our clients an experience they want to return for, and a successful partnership and outcome to repeat, is something we pride ourselves on. But there always has to be a first time working together and engaging new clients and working together to form a partnership is just the start. What is important to you in a new or existing partnership? #charityrecruitment #partnerships

The biggest lesson in business that I’ve ever had cost me £5000. Last year I worked as a self employed contractor for a business that went insolvent… That business made empty promises for months to its staff, contractors, suppliers and creators that money was coming in to fund the business and it would all go out to those who had worked SO hard and stayed loyal to the business. In fact we were all promised a ‘nice bonus’ for our loyalty! The worst bit? I trusted them 😔 I remained loyal and I kept working, just as hard, if not harder than before. I sacrificed time with my kids, increasing their days in childcare to support their business and the employees to try and help them get out of the hell hole the ‘leaders’ created. My reward? A £5000 outstanding invoice and still no signs of getting it back almost 18 months later👌🏼 Do I regret working for this company? Absolutely not… which you may think is crazy 🤪 But I have learnt so much from this experience. It was an experience that was emotionally and mentally challenging but I have taken away SO much from it. It’s made me more resilient, it’s made me realise I can’t fix everything and I can’t help everyone. It’s made me realise that sometimes we have to be selfish and it’s also made me realise that not everyone can be trusted and not everyone cares as much as I do!! What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learnt in business? #businesslesson #businessowner #freelancehr #hrsupport #insolvency

I think non-competes at the executive level make sense but not for low and middle-income earners. For example, saying a recruiter can't work in another recruiter role because that would be working for the competition is a hindrance to anyone looking to grow their career. At a press conference, Governor Hochul said, 'I have to strike the balance to make sure we take care of lower- and middle-income workers up to, say, $250,000,' while 'those at higher levels are very well equipped to negotiate on their own.' That makes sense to me. #recruiter #recruiterlife #noncompete #nyjobs https://lnkd.in/diJNbbC4

"I deserve a raise, but where do I start?" These 5 methods can help 👇👇👇 1. Research: Before you ask for a raise, do your research. -Research industry standards and compensation for similar roles in your area. -This can give you an idea of what you should be making and help you make a case for your raise. 2. Schedule a meeting: Don't just ask for a raise on the fly. -Schedule a meeting with your employer to discuss your compensation. -This gives them time to prepare and also shows that you take the conversation seriously. 3. Be prepared: -Come to the meeting with a list of your accomplishments and contributions to the company. -This can help you make a case for your raise and show your value to the company. 4. Be confident: -Asking for a raise can be nerve-wracking, but remember that you deserve to be compensated fairly for your work. -Be confident in your abilities and your case for a raise. 5. Be open to negotiation: -Your employer may not be able to give you the exact raise you're asking for, but they may be able to offer other benefits or perks. -Be willing to discuss alternatives. _______________ Remember, you have more leverage than you think. Because they know how hard and expensive it’s going to be to replace you. So if you feel secure in your job, look for a raise. If you don’t feel secure, look for your next role. You’d be surprised as to how much more you can make. And how much more appreciated you'll feel.

As one of the co-founders of my previous firm, I can remember the advice that I was getting from the marketplace about our employment structures: 👉 “Without noncompetes and non-solicit agreements, your company will never be able to make any money.” 👉 “You need to make sure your salespeople start off strong and sell to everyone they know quickly so that you can keep their customers as they run out of steam and either quit or get fired and then lock them out of competing.” This advice made me sick to my stomach. Why would I want to design an employment structure that would ultimately serve as the demise of another human being just because they needed to move on to other employment at some stage of their life? What would I say if I ever met their spouse or children to explain that the company we were building needed to take legal action against their mom or dad if that person tried to work in the same industry after years of dedicated service? Today, I write about this ugly practice and many of the struggles and successes I experienced by going against the grain. https://lnkd.in/gc2dJH7z #undividedlife #blog #companyculture #noncompetes
