We couldn't agree more with the latest CommunicateHealth, Inc. post about writing clear communications for research projects. We recently worked with the University of Newcastle to help them develop #PlainLanguage 'participant information sheets' for an important research project. 😊 We used plain language principles to keep the language simple and friendly. ✍ We restructured the information into a logical order with clear headings in a question and answer format. 📝 And we made sure readers had the information they needed to make a decision and contact the organisers if interested. 🌟 Participation and results will improve when research materials, such as invitations, consent forms and questionnaires, are written in plain language. Another great post by CommunicateHealth, Inc., highlighting the benefits of writing research materials in #PlainLanguage. Complex research materials, such as overviews, forms and surveys, create barriers to participation, especially for people who have lower literacy skills. Learn more about plain language 👉 https://lnkd.in/gMicxY7p #AccessibleInformation #PlainLanguage #Research #LowerLiteracy

I help healthcare organisations stand out on YouTube | 200 million+ views generated for clients | I’ve grown my own YouTube channel from 0-300,000 subscribers whilst working as a doctor and researcher
💭 "How do you create trustworthy, evidence-based healthcare information online?" ✅ Here are 5 things I do in my YouTube video description boxes.... 1️⃣ I cite trusted, impartial resources and reference them (e.g. NHS website) 2️⃣ I synthesise information from multiple sources, rather than a single source. >30% of my audience are based in the USA, so I link to credible US based healthcare sources (e.g. Cleveland Clinic and Mayo Clinic) 3️⃣ Whilst my videos are in English, I link to non-English resources where possible. This is important from a health equity standpoint. There are 6912 languages in the world. 94% of the world's population does not speak English as their first language. Bear this in mind! 4️⃣I signpost to resources specifically designed for teenagers/children where possible. 5️⃣ I label information with the date it was created and when I next plan to update it. For more top tips on content creation, check out the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges guidance "Assuring the credibility of health information sources on social media platforms". Stay tuned for Part 2 where I cover how to disclose conflicts of interest. ❓ What do you do to ensure you are creating evidence based content? #healthcommunications #publichealth #contentcreation #YouTube #evidencebasedmedicine

Nothing About Us Without Us For the past three days I've been wearing my patient's hat. Thank you GEDII - Grupo de Estudo da Doença Inflamatória Intestinal for bringing patients into the conversation through APDI - Associação Portuguesa da Doença Inflamatória do Intestino and Associação Crohn/Colite Portugal. And thank you Vera Pinto Gomes for inviting me to join today's working group on Standards of Care in IBD Centers! It's not enough to ask patients what they think. You must be willing to listen. – – – – – – – ✍ I write about #MedicalTranslation and #MedicalWriting, sharing tips and strategies for freelancers and clients. 🔵 Follow my hashtag #YourPortuguesePatientPartner for insights, updates, and behind-the-scenes glimpses of my work. 🌟 Founder / CEO at NeedleCalm 🌟 I'm on a mission to alleviate the impact of #NeedlePhobia on patients and healthcare professionals alike! 🏆 Health Minister's Trailblazer Award Winner 2023 🏆
Despite my writing skills not being the best, I get results. I frequently share with my patients the story of my fear of public speaking that originated in my early school days. Although the fear has diminished over time, I still actively try to steer clear of such situations. Yes, I would say it has affected my career and caused me to miss out on opportunities; however,it is unlikely that this fear would ever impact my health or hinder me from seeking immediate medical assistance. When we examine and compare the timelines my phobia it’s only really affected me for those 20 years, there were no significant implications on any type of system. Needlephobia is life limiting. It affects people's relationships, family planning, career, travel plans and unfortunately they tend to seek urgent medical attention when they are unwell. If you do come across one of these elusive patients please remember that even the smallest positive experience makes a huge difference. They might book in for a simple health check with you even though there is nothing ‘wrong’ at that time but getting in that door to see you has quite likely taken months to years of intensive therapy. Pre pandemic we were looking at prevalence rates of between 10%-25%. Now I am quite sure these numbers are around 65%. Not just in Australia, but the world. It’s not a sexy problem to have, there is no special day and no massive fundraisers. Just a small bunch of people around the world working consistently to give these patients a fighting chance.
