Interesting interview and legal analysis from an entirely Palestinian point of view, enough is enough, the world has to urgently grow together in order to address the issues that impact all of us like conflict, climate-change, inequality and forced migration. This we can only do without any dominance as equals, collectively in solidarity. www.convergence.ngo & www.pax.ngo https://lnkd.in/dAPjYprs

🗞️Asylum seekers have been unlawfully detained in EU-funded facilities on the Greek island of Samos. Now, we run the risk of turning Samos into a blueprint for how the EU 'manages' its borders, which isn't too good. This week's EU Affairs newsletter explains what Samos means for the EU, how Russian espionage is back on the agenda, and how the ongoing investigation into X is taking shape. 👀Russian spies have been busy over the past 2 years, and a new immigration law for Russian and Belarusian citizens might not help to mitigate that. Another powerful illustration of the harmful character of political parties for any democracy. Excellent report by the German public channel Deutsche Welle (DW News) about the 30 years in power of the AFRICAN NATIONAL CONGRESS (ANC) in South Africa. The ANC is now a deeply corrupt party that ignores the needs of the citizens who brought it to power. WHATEVER THE INTENTIONS, GOOD OR BAD, LEADING TO THE FORMATION OF A POLITICAL PARTY, IT WILL ALWAYS BE HIJACKED BY MORE POWERFUL INTEREST THAN THE WILL OF ITS MEMBERS. Three proposals for a new democracy in the third millennium: 1- Vote for an INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE; 2- No PRIVATE OR CORPORATE FINANCING; 3- MAXIMUM DECENTRALIZATION. Our new #JeanMonnet podcast made at Collegium Civitas reflecting on the EU enlargement dynamic in the wake of Russia's all-out war on Ukraine. Links below. 🇪🇺 🔈 Vanessa Tinker, Ph.D.Arslan Suleymanov #bosniaandherzegovina #moldova #eu2024be #europa Russia's war of aggression continues to inflict large-scale humanitarian, economic and ecological destruction across the entire eastern neighbourhood. However, at the same time as these devastating effects, the war has also prompted a fresh perspective on the prospect of EU enlargement, which had been going through a rather passive phase over the past decade. Though EU membership is open to any European state, potential candidate need to meet extensive and highly demanding accession criteria, which span across multiple policy sectors, the rule of law and democracy. Our podcast considers the emerging dynamics of EU enlargement through the lenses of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Moldova to see how these two potential members measure up to the EU's accession criteria. It was great to chat with Hazar Deniz Eker about the significant role of using artwork and creating a space for the voices of people on the move to guide our research on Europe's migration facilities. In Amnesty International's latest report, published last week, artwork created during our workshops at our sites showcased the inhumane conditions in the Samos Closed-Controlled Access Centre from the residents' perspective. The centre is supposed to be the blueprint for new reception and pre-deportation centers in Europe. The severe issues of overcrowding, lacking water services, lacking sanitation facilities, lacking medical care, and prison-like structures exacerbate already vulnerable communities and place people seeking protection in detention-like conditions. This cannot be the future of the EU.

What Mr. Yambio brings to light is crucial to keep in mind during the EU elections! I raised this issue with Ursula von der Leyen and Margaritis Schinas, who, with deaf ears and outright lies, dismissed the criticism that I, BLM Sweden and Greta Thunberg raised, which was the following: Tunisia's EU-Backed Mafia Tactics: "The Crisis of Desert Dumping We, climate justice advocate Gurgîn Bakircioglu, alongside climate activist Greta Thunberg and Black Lives Matter Sweden, firmly convey this message: The EU's use of Tunisia as its border guard is not just a tragedy. It's a disgrace. It's an execution of EU's values. The EU continues to spew out fossil oil and gas and engage in large-scale deforestation while attempting to label it as green. Our emissions and exploitation of nature primarily affect the people in the global South who bear the least responsibility for this crisis. Those least responsible for the crisis suffer the most, and when these vulnerable individuals try to escape our emissions, they are not met with an outstretched hand from the EU but with walls of cold indifference. History seems to repeat itself – high moral costs were paid to use Turkey as a border guard, and this pattern is now repeating in North Africa, with Tunisia as the new protagonist. Instead of taking the right course of action and repaying the debt, we are now driving them into the desert without water, food, or protection from scorching sun and cold nights. Tunisia must not become the EU's border guard, just as Turkey was before. This is not just a violation of human rights. It contradicts everything that you in the EU claim to stand for. We are approaching the creation of the Alan Kurdi of climate refugees in 2023. What do you have to say to surviving family man Pato Dosso? His family, including 30-year-old Fati Dosso and their six-year-old daughter Marie, tragically died due to dehydration in the desert while attempting to escape to Europe. They were driven out by Tunisian guards funded by us. Instead of resorting to extreme comparisons, Tunisia is forcing people in need into the desert without water, food, or protection from harsh weather conditions. Innocent lives are being lost due to EU emissions. These actions not only lead to tragic consequences but also contribute to an increase in climate refugees, further straining the refugee crisis. Innocent individuals don't even get the chance to escape from our mess. We demand justice, and we know you can do better. Show that you too believe that every life is valuable. Help migrants in the desert in the short term and reduce EU emissions. Fortress Europe must open its gates, for this stark reality of immigration and the construction of barriers across Europe demands unwavering recognition, immediate action, and resolute change: Recognize, Act, Transform! Signatories: Gurgîn Bakircioglu, Greta Thunberg, Black Lives Matter Sweden.

Dear politicians at the European Commission if you play deaf I will come to your face such that I am seen and those in the wretches that you have created in Libya, Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria. If you play blind then hear me out. If you are both, I will use other means to make you feel my voice, my pain and my presence because all we ask for is a more sincere, inclusive and human approach towards immigration. Enough is what we have lived through, and another Europe is possible, in fact another world is possible. Thanks to The Left in the European Parliament for being the voice of the streets. Together will preserve our democracy, humanity and moral values. 📸 The Left/ Quentin Bruno

Forwarded from Marco Alexander (https://lnkd.in/e48N-KWV): 🔴 New video of C4I Italy *European Observatory: Ireland and Palestinism.* In this video, hosts Eugene Doyle and Marco Alexander explore anti-Semitism in Europe, focusing specifically on Ireland. The resurgence of anti-Semitism on the continent has been fueled by discriminatory platitudes and has surged in anti-Semitic acts since the October 7 Hamas attack. Ireland, along with Spain and Norway, officially recognized Palestine as a state on May 28. Ireland's attitudes toward Israel and the political and social implications of those attitudes will be explored in this video. https://lnkd.in/ebbb5VF8

Humanity must win! South Africa's bold action to hold Israel accountable for genocide marks a historic day. Israel's persistent violations of international law challenge the principles of humanity. This pivotal moment demands the global system to undergo a rigorous examination, determining its reliability and longevity. The Palestine-Israel conflict, marred by international complicity and double standards, faces a critical turning point. Today signifies either the triumph of humanity and respect for human rights or the beginning of a disastrous collapse for an unjust system. No one, without exception, should stand above the law or humanity. International Court of Justice (ICJ)

This below post is the immediate issue to be resolved - words cannot express this situation for those birthed into such a situation it’s important to reflect on the complexities of international relations and the pursuit of peace. The question of recognizing statehood is a significant one, with 146 United Nations Member States advocating for the recognition of Palestine as a state. This move is seen as a crucial step towards acknowledging the rights and struggles of the Palestinian people, however USA vetoed this step. I wonder if the European countries can make this possible against US wishes. The pursuit of peace and justice in regions like Palestine is a collective responsibility. It requires a commitment to dialogue, understanding, and the unwavering support of the international community. As we navigate these turbulent times, it’s crucial to maintain hope and work towards solutions that honor the dignity and rights of all people involved.
