🚨 NEW PUBLICATION ALERT 🚨 As part of our continuous efforts to highlight the role of #communication in driving #MigrationCapacityPartnerships, we released a new study by James Dennison in cooperation with European University Institute Migration Policy Centre's Observatory on Public Attitudes to Migration (OPAM) titled: 🟡 Communication and Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration 🟡 🔍 Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) programmes have emerged as a migration governance tool used by many national governments and supranational organisations in the 21st century. However, AVRR programmes have received several criticisms from academics and activists. The academic literature on measuring reintegration, identifying the causes of reintegration success, and identifying the causes of AVRR participation are nascent but provide a basis by which policymakers can understand how to improve AVRR outcomes. Dive into this study to identify how communication contributes to AVRR objectives. Download the full publication in English, French, and Arabic here: https://lnkd.in/dzDEZFQ

A definition vs how we apply this in our day to day 👇 The definition: lobbying exists to facilitate #communication between the public and policymakers, #enhance public participation, ensure #accountability, and #influence policy development.* How this might look day to day: listening to what’s really being said, reading between the lines, interpreting Government speak. 🤝🌍 Signed MoU with the Greek National Center for Public Administration and Local Government (EKDDA): A new chapter in strengthening cooperation and deepening ties between #WesternBalkans and #Greece public administration teams, supporting enhanced administrative capabilities! 💡 The cooperation will be operationalized with a working visit in autumn of public servants from the region to Athens on “Digital infrastructure and services,” while Greek lecturers will provide their expertise in specific ReSPA training. 💬 Maja Handjiska Trendafilova: This MoU is an important step forward in our partnership with EKDDA. Leveraging on our vast expertise and practice, we will work on co-creating various learning and capacity-building programs to foster the professional growth of civil servants and support policy reforms in public sector modernisation and digitalisation. 🙏 Vassilis Exarchos, Thanasis Raptis and the EKDDA team for the excellent exchange. We are excited to deepen our collaboration and jointly work towards stronger, resilient, citizens-centred public institutions in the region.

International Development Consultant: Science Technology & Innovation| Development Economics & Impact Evaluation| Sustainability, Environment & Resilience| Governance, Public Policy & Accountability
On public #policies, we tend to focus more on the technicalities (scientific #evidence) and more on policy actors (mostly top-level bureaucrats and civil servants). In my experience working on #Science #Technology and #Innovation policies in #Africa, I find that working with mandated agencies (for instance, Science Granting Councils), refining operational #frameworks and manuals, and focusing on #multistakeholder convenings is a sure and sustainable way of improving public policies toward the desired goal. This is especially true with the understanding that public policy development is, in most cases, incremental. Scientific evidence is still important, notwithstanding. And to enhance #evidenceuptake for policy, evidence packaging and #communication are critical. #sti #africa #innovation #technology #policy #publicpolicy #evidenceuptake
