It’s not even 9 am, and I’ve already had some great insight this morning. 😮 Part I: I’ve never had to review applications, select candidates for interviews, conduct the interviews, and select a candidate for hire before coming to HomeTown Pharmacy. What. A. Task. Especially without talent recruiters and/or AI. Part II: We have an open position for a part-time clerk (https://lnkd.in/gpiiM3un) and we have over 60 applications! Learning how to quickly weave through them is a task in itself. I’ve seen enough resumes now (and had enough coaching) to know that people need more encouragement and skill to let themselves shine on paper. ✨ Part III: We have two applicants that are regular patients. Based on their resumes, they probably wouldn’t have been my first picks. I’m open to interviewing them because of the connection and see how they do in an interview. Networking can make all the difference. 🤝 Conclusion: I have so much respect for talent recruiters, hiring managers, and the hard work put into hiring good people. Faking it. My regular hairstylist was venting yesterday about being short-handed cos he had to let his new assistant go. Apparently, that now-ex assistant couldn't do what he said he could. So I asked my hairstylist if he verified candidates' claims (of possessing X number of years' experience + A, B or C skills) during interviews. He replied that it is easier said than done b'cos he can't simply let the candidate loose on a customer to "test". I know it is a tight job market out there. But IMHO, no sense in faking it just to get that job. If not possessing a level of skill or qualifications = don't claim to have it. Cos you will get found out. Eventually.

Got this from somewhere else (with credit unknown). I would add to the last part about how others feel after having been with you. This is good and well for getting business. Most of us know how to treat a client or potential client--right? But how do we treat others in general who don't contribute to our bottom line$? Think of people you come across who might not send you business: the receptionist, the cashier, any company's CSR, the janitor, etc. Someone very wise and very successful told me once that when he owned his own (very successful) company and was hiring, after every interview, he would check with the receptionist to see how that person treated her. The answer to that question was ALWAYS part of his consideration in whether to hire someone or not. We have to ask ourselves: Do we stay in touch with people or value them simply because we think we'll receive a benefit from them? Who we are when we think no one is looking is our true character. #goldenrule #charactermatters

*Personal groom, a perfect job, and customer certification* After my high school, a friend of mine owned a coffee shop called the sound cup. He invitede to interciew for a hostess job, knowing that it was my friends business, I felt like it was a definite pass, so I did not try to dress well or even groom myself, never tried to impress. However, the interview told me I had failed the interview even before answering any questions!! ✔️✔️✔️Fortunately, the interview taught me a lesson never to drop.
