Fresh off the press! Delighted to share my new peer-reviewed article which is free for downloads in the link below 👇. In the article titled "The interplay of #mineral and #energysecurity : A nexus approach to #Africa's economic #diversification", I argue that the increasing global demand for critical minerals can be a double-edged sword for resource-rich African countries (RRACs). I discuss three policy goals for economic diversification in RRACs. (1) development of energy as an infrastructure input for diversification; (2) development of energy infrastructure for energy security; and (3) fostering regional integration. Embedded in the analysis of these policy goals is the policy choice and feasibility of whether RRACs utilise #fossilfuels-based energy or develop clean energy by utilising #criticalminerals. Beyond the "boom" is opportunities for other sectors of our economy's growth, skills development, regulatory framework, sustainable energy and infrastructure solutions, and a robust engineering environment to spur other growth related industries amongst other benefits. These projects and respective partners reflects the interconnectedness of our local and international business community, and the unabated energy needs of Africa; our immediate regional market. https://lnkd.in/dQKjBAqa #africarising

Seeking Your Insight, Dear LinkedIn Community 🌍 I recently had a thought-provoking discussion with friends about a dilemma that reflects the global challenges we face. ✈️ As some of you may know, I've been fortunate to travel extensively to West Africa. Recently, Senegal has discovered oil and gas. https://lnkd.in/eT6CshHG 🛢️ Senegal rightfully has the opportunity to extract and leverage these resources for its development, aiming for economic growth and political influence. 🇩🇪 Simultaneously, back in Germany, there's a noteworthy development in the form of increasing CO2 taxes. The aim is clear: make money, as well as motivate and, if necessary, penalize individuals with a significant carbon footprint. The point of discussion was: How does it make sense for a country like Germany to impose higher CO2 taxes and more rules on it's citizens while a country like Senegal is set to extract, sell, and potentially contribute even more CO2 emissions into the air, as well as Saudia Arabia trying to block a global deal to end fossil fuels. My perspective is that historically, many nations, including Germany, have accelerated economic growth at the expense of the environment. It raises the question of fairness for countries like Senegal India etc. Which are now pressured into carbon neutrality. However, I believe the solution lies in providing environmentally friendly alternatives for developing nations for free ( global climate fund) rather than expecting them to refrain from pursuing growth. 🤔 Share your insights, experiences, or any initiatives you've come across that bridge the gap between economic growth and climate responsibility. 🌏 Your perspectives matter. #ClimateAction #GlobalPerspectives #Sustainability #EnvironmentalResponsibility.
