This is a really well written article! I'm now wondering how (if at all) this changes how advisors should consider guiding Education specific savings goals?
IMHO, this conversation is more about price than value. Many cannot comprehend that they must pay over 90k annually to guarantee their children a slice of the American Dream. #CollegePlanning

For the high school Class of 2025, now is the time to start the college admissions effort, and here are three suggested areas to work on for some excellent college admissions outcomes: 1) Essay Strategy: Students should consider their strongest personal attributes and develop real-life examples putting their strengths into action. One student created a chatbot to help relieve stress, his solution was added to the school's FaceBook page. This example demonstrates intellectual curiosity and contribution, two the the most popular attributes for admissions committees. 2) Researching Colleges: Consider what size school makes the best fit for a student (small: enrollment of 3000 or less; medium: 3k-7k; large: 7k or more). Next look geography, which state or region does the student prefer? These two steps will significantly shrink the universe of great colleges to research and give the student the opportunity to look closely at academic programs in the remaining colleges. This is a good exercise for students and parents to work on now, before things get crazy in the Fall. 3) Paying for College: Outside scholarships are a great way to help pay for college. There are some good resources online and students who spend a few hours every week starting now have a good chance of winning enough scholarships to avoid the college debt.

Literacy education expert. College admissions sensei. Founder/CEO @ Prompt College Application and Essay Coaching & Pen English Literacy
The secret to college admissions? Strong essays are a huge return on investment. Strong essays result in acceptances at reach colleges or paying far less for a top-choice college. I put together a chart comparing list price tuition versus US News Ranking for the Top 100 private and public universities. It shows that strong applications and essays get you a better return on your college investment. 1. You’ll pay a similar tuition (or less) at a reach college as your other top-choice colleges. 2. You’ll pay far less if you get into your major/program of choice at a top-choice public college. 3. You can get $5,000 to $20,000+ per year in scholarships at one of your top-choice colleges. FOR PARENTS So, how do you ensure your child has strong essays? Work with a college application and essay coach or private college counselor who understands what admissions officers are looking for and can coach your child on how to write clearly and concisely. At the company I founded, Prompt, we coach thousands of students per year. 98% of Prompt students get into one or more of their top-choice colleges. 3 in 4 get into one or more of their reach colleges. Many receive a $5,000 to $20,000 per year scholarship (or more!) from at least one of their top-choice colleges. More and more students are applying to colleges via Early Decision, and rightfully so. The college application process is a pivotal moment in a student's life, and one crucial decision they face is whether to opt for Early Decision 1 (ED1) or Early Decision 2 (ED2). Understanding the nuances between these two options can significantly impact both admission chances and financial aid offers. #CollegeAdmissions #CollegeEnrollment #HigherEd
