Sorry, but age does matter 🤷♂️ In the UK, ageism is the most prevalent form of discrimination amongst all age groups, with one in three people experiencing age-based prejudice or discrimination 🤯 Ageism, also known as age discrimination, is when a person is treated unfairly or unfavourably due to their age. And at work is where it seems to happen the most: 👉 60% of employees have witnessed age discrimination in the workplace 👉 One in five employers believe that ageism occurs in their organisation 👉 Just 44% of hiring managers claim that age doesn’t at all factor into their employment decisions A person's date of birth is no indication of how they'll perform in a role, nor should it ever determine the success of a candidate's application, and yet, studies show that a 50-year-old candidate is up to three times less likely to get an interview than a 28-year-old applicant. But it's not just the over-50s who are fighting this battle. How many LinkedIn posts and news headlines have you seen talking about "entitled youths" and "lazy millennials"? Anyone can be the target of age discrimination 🎯 Thankfully, there are plenty of things employers can do to help tackle this problem.
