📢 The Frontex Fundamental Rights Officer has just released its 2023 Annual Report outlining the main observations and recommendations addressed to Frontex, its Executive Director and the Management Board. 🔎 “2023 was a year of big changes for Frontex,” said Jonas Grimheden, the Agency’s Fundamental Rights Officer. “Our independent office took a hard look at our practices to ensure we continue to uphold the rights of all people, especially after the rapid growth and challenges we’ve faced these past few years.” 📋 The Annual Report gives a comprehensive overview of the many activities undertaken by the Fundamental Rights Office reflecting the recent developments in the Agency and in the European and national policies. The recommendations stem from extensive field monitoring, complaints, and serious incident reporting, as well as desk research conducted by its staff, monitors, and experts. 💡 Recently, Frontex headquarters buzzed with innovation, as we hosted a groundbreaking training series on the latest border security technologies. Our dedicated logistics unit successfully coordinated sessions that will help us in conducting better operations at authorised border crossing points 👨🏫 During the training, we learned about: 💨 Carbon dioxide detectors used to uncover hidden passengers in vehicles, enhancing our vigilance against irregular border-crossings 💓 Portable heartbeat detectors for non-invasive checks in trucks and vehicles, ensuring no heartbeat goes undetected 🔎 Borescopes meant to inspect hard-to-reach spaces, making sure no threats are hidden out of sight 🧪 Spectrometers for identifying dangerous substances using advanced spectral detection methods, keeping our borders safe from harmful materials 👮♀️👮 Our skilled officers from various operational areas received hands-on training from top experts. Job training, work shadowing and specialised courses for coast guard authorities! 🛩 Keeping watch over Europe's coasts is a complex task, which involves monitoring many different activities happening at sea. 🌊🌊🌊 #EFCA, #EMSA and #Frontex coordinate an exchange programme for coast guard authorities, entities and academies. Its purpose is to share know-how and working methods, as well as exchange experience with various equipment, resources, capabilities and infrastructure.🚁✈🚤   Let’s learn from each other! 

The #EUBorderGuard continues to strengthen its forces!  👍    👏This week, #Frontex has welcomed 190 newly recruited standing corps officers into its ranks! This is the second batch of EU border guards that have joined our Agency this year.     We are delighted to meet our future officers, commanders, deputy commanders and cultural mediators, who will soon be deployed to work at the external borders of the EU.      💡  Upon starting their journey with us, our new recruits follow induction training to ease their transition into their new roles and integration into the Agency.      Today, they had an opportunity to meet with Executive Director Hans Leijtens and Deputy Executive Director Aija Kalnaja to discuss the significance of their unique roles in ensuring the security of the EU borders.     ‘Stand by each other, support each other, create this community and never forget that you represent European values,’ was the advice given by the Executive Director to the new recruits. ‘Being an EU border guard is a unique experience and you are cocreating it - designing the future is from now on in your hands.’     After the welcome and the induction training, our new colleagues will follow a training program tailored to their specific operational profiles.      Currently, #Frontex has over 2,500 officers stationed at the borders every day.   If you are interested in joining the fastest-growing EU Agency, make sure to regularly check our website: https://lnkd.in/dKcYYBze for the latest career opportunities! 

Their journey didn’t start at Chopin Airport in Warsaw but months ago, when they’ve sent their applications to join #Frontex. More than 100 candidates were selected to be part of the EU border guard after a tough selection process with linguistic, logical, and physical tests.  They come from 17 different countries, most of them from Greece, Romania and Portugal.  They all have a national law enforcement background, such as border guard or military. Every efficient cooperation starts with an open and transparent debate. That’s why three coast guard agencies – #EFCA, #EMSA and #Frontex meet every year at the Annual European Coast Guard Event to exchange views and agree on the way forward. All three Executive Directors of EMSA, EFCA and Frontex met for the first time in person to take stock of the interagency cooperation and to outline the priorities for the future. Frontex is now taking over chairmanship of the tripartite working arrangement and, in the light of Frontex’s recent restructuring and the introduction of the new chain of command, its Executive Director Hans Leijtens shared several important messages. One of them concerned the implementation of multipurpose maritime operations (MMOs) and exercises, capacity sharing, and collaborative work: ‘MMOs should grow as this operational tool may serve to address risk and threats across all European sea basins by ensuring a coordinated response’. Later in the event, Frontex took over the chairmanship ‘bell’ from EFCA Executive Director Susan Steele. Frontex intends to continue interagency cooperation with focus on efficient maritime security, ecofriendly coast guard solutions, transparency and accountability with respect of human rights. The event was also an opportunity to award the winning projects of the first Greening Award Initiative launched by the agencies earlier this year to celebrate the sustainability actions that are carried out and developed across more than 300 coast guard authorities in the EU. Four winners and eight special commendations stand as proof of the great greening efforts undertaken by the coast guard sector.
