📢 FROM EU EXTERNAL BORDERS: JANUARY-JUNE 2024 🆕 📉 In the first half of 2024, the number of irregular border crossings into the European Union fell by almost a third (30%) to roughly 94 000. 🗺️ Among the main migratory routes, the Western Balkans and the Central Mediterranean recorded the largest decreases in detections of irregular border crossings (-72% and -61% respectively). 📈 The West African and the Eastern Land Border saw the largest increases (+174% and 148% respectively). 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/dz29Rjtp

https://lnkd.in/dcmj7wvy Some believe that migration can be used as weapon against EU. Earlier examples proved to be a bad idea. However here might be the next challenge in Finland from Russia. EU partners should stand with Finland to allocate necessary resources, based on pre-frontier intelligence, to prevent any border crises.

📣 FROM EU EXTERNAL BORDERS: JANUARY-AUGUST 📉 In the first eight months of 2024, the number of irregular border crossings into the European Union fell by 39% to 139 847. 🗺 Among the main migratory routes, the Central Mediterranean saw a 64% drop in irregular border crossings. 3moImpressive reduction in the number of irregular border crossings along the Western-Balkan route. At the same time, Croatia recorded +109% and Slovenia +92% increase in migrant smugglers detected. More than 650 smugglers have been arrested solely in Croatia this year. What is the conclusion? Less illegal border crossings can still escalate in more smugglers' arrest.
