We were at IPBES 10!!! We are glad that Samuel Adu (Darlington) represented the ACEF - Africa Climate and Environment Foundation at the Tenth Session of the Plenary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES 10) at the #WorldConferenceCentre from the 28th August to 2nd September 2023 in Bonn- Germany. This is where Global Leaders convened to discuss pressing issues shaping the future of our planet and to find sustainable ways of preserving Biodiversity and the Ecosystem. IPBES 10 will strengthen the science-policy interface for diversity and ecosystem services. The focus of IPBES 10 was mainly the thematic assessment of invasive alien species and their control, whose preparation was approved at IPBES 8 as well as delving into the discussions surrounding the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. This framework presents a beacon of hope for the protection and restoration of nature, setting ambitious targets to safeguard biodiversity and ensure the well-being of both people and the planet. We firmly believe that the youth have a crucial role to play in conservation of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Restoration. They ought to engage in meaningful discussion to halt and Preserve Biodiversity Loss and put nature on the path to restoratation. Their voices are not only important but also necessary for finding effective solutions. It is not enough to simply listen to their concerns: we must actively involve them in shaping the future of our planet. The current climate crisis requires urgent action, and it is through meaningful engagement with young people that we can achieve tangible results. By including the youth in decision making processes, we tap into their creativity, passion and innovative thinking. They bring fresh perspectives and ideas that can lead us towards a sustainable future. #AfricaYouthClimateDeclaration #YouthForClimateAction #AfricaClimateSummit #CollaborationForChange #ClimateJustice NEVILLE AGESA Sharrif Injamu Robert Meya Tambe Honourine Enow Hadeer Ahmed Arab Bawa IPBES

LIFE GoodWater IP project organized the international conference “Let the waters flow: removal of dams, weirs and other obstacles for improvement of water quality and aquatic ecosystems in rivers” to introduce the implemented actions, plans and challenges in Latvia as well as to learn from good practices in other European countries. Conference was held on 20-21 September 2023 in Cēsis, Latvia. Dams or other obstructions on rivers not only hinder fish migration, but also have a negative impact on the entire river ecosystem and biodiversity. In Latvia, there are more than 1200 obstacles on rivers that impacts significantly more than half of river water bodies. Restoration of the natural flow of rivers face not only technological and financial problems, but also administrative, legal and socio-cultural barriers, requiring comprehensive knowledge and co-operation among experts and various stakeholders. During the first day (September 20) a field trip was held to visit the North-eastern part of Latvia to see the sites where removal of dams or other obstructions have been already implemented (including Beja Dam on river Alūksne) or expected. On the second day (September 21) conference hold the plenary session and discussions on various aspects related for successful implementation of river ecosystem restoration projects and good practice examples. 🌊 Last week, we participated in the CBD 4th #SOI Global Dialogue with Regional Seas Organizations and Regional Fishery Bodies in Seoul, South Korea. This event served as a crucial platform for enhancing regional #cooperation in implementing global ocean frameworks like the Global Biodiversity Framework. We explored cross-sectoral collaboration strategies, emphasizing the partnership between UNEP/MAP – SPA/RAC and the GFCM, and reviewed the progress toward the Mediterranean region's roadmap. Special attention was given to the #BBNJ Agreement. Expanding and deepening regional cooperation is vital for addressing shared challenges in biodiversity conservation and promoting a sustainable blue economy. #GBF #RFB #RSO
