🌍🔗Transatlantic Ties for Change: Youth Justice Action Month🌍🔗 I am following Youth Justice Action Month in the US with great interest. Not only are the London team and I intimately involved in GtD's justice and health work in Georgia, but the discussions that YJAM is promoting in the States are finding strong resonances here in England. As my contribution to YJAM, I am sharing a case study of GtD's evaluation of the Youth Justice Board's Asset Plus assessment tool. Using tools that help to assess a young person's needs can help frame an appropriate action plan to help them thrive and make a positive contribution to their community. Please contact Alan or me to find out more about how GtD's social impact analytics can help you deliver better outcomes for the young people you serve. https://lnkd.in/eYV74FdN #YouthJusticeActionMonth #YouthEmpowerment #SocialImpact #YouthJustice

What is your experience with ICPC? I’m hopeful that the length of the ICPC process noted in this video is an outlier, but I’m open to the idea that it might not be. When the prospect of an ICPC comes up, I’ve noticed some of the first words always said are, “We better start it today because it’s going to take awhile.” We have no expectation that it will move quickly. Instead, we immediately assume that it will take forever, and any suggestion that we could try to make it work quickly is seen as unrealistic and naïve. I support the steps involved in the ICPC process, but I question why it takes so long. More than that, I’m concerned that we have accepted this as reality. If our expectation is that it will take forever, our behavior will follow suit and we will be less inclined to move with a sense of urgency for the children we serve. If there is a child in one state and a willing and stable relative in the other, it’s frustrating when the only thing separating them is the child welfare system itself. What do you think? Why do you think the ICPC process takes as long as it does? #dcf #childwelfare #childprotection #fostercare #fostercareawareness #icpc https://lnkd.in/gvG9fpQB

The annual DSC conference didn’t disappoint. I love it when the great minds of our sector get the opportunity to get together and share new perspectives. Not to mention react in real time to proposed parliament bills. A few of my key takeaways: 1. Providers may become duty holders under a legislated rights framework. This didn’t come through in the proposed bill today, but perhaps that’s were we will eventually land. 2. Strategy. Too after we focus on Where are we now, Where do we want to be & How do we get there. The conversation needs to shift to what do we do better than our competition. The only person who can tell you this are the people receiving supports. 3. Lived experience and adapting your service offering based on participant feedback. This last one aligns highly with a project we have been running behind the scenes. I would like to introduce Robbie. Our newest lived experience consultant. Robbie lives in a SILin western sydney and wants to become a peer advocate. We have developed a survey to try and understand: - what informs the buying process undertaken by people in SIL. - what would make them want to change SIL providers - if they wanted to change SIL providers, what would they do Robbie is attending SIL sites and having conversations with his peers to try and get a broad sample to answer these questions. If you think your SIL participants would like to chat to Robbie, let me know and we will arrange a visit. Or you can support them by providing direct access to our survey link https://lnkd.in/gX8D9xte Too often people with intellectual and psychosocial disabilities living in SIL don’t get the same platforms to raise their concerns. This data is going to be so critical for Bill Shorten & @nataliewade and the rest of the registration task force.

Access to the right support requires the effective identification of disabled children and young people’s needs to ensure the level and timing of support is appropriate for both the child and their family. A new open access briefing, co-published by Research in Practice and Council for Disabled Children, explores the importance of developing a needs-led eligibility framework and proportionate pathways to support. #LearningDisabilityWeek https://lnkd.in/eCG8pw8s
