On the 3rd Anniversary of the entry into force of the Directive 2019/719 (EU) on Copyright and Related Rights in the Digital Single Market on 7th of June 2024, the 45-page EWC report ‘Writers’ Contracts‘ summarises where the future tasks of the European Commission will lie in order to move from theory to enforceable practice. COURSE OFFERING: Copyright Theory and Practice for Libraries, Archives, and Special Collections This course provides an introduction to the historical and legal origins of copyright in the United States (along with some relevant international contributions), how that history has influenced library, archive, and special collections practice, and what copyright means now. Through a mix of case law, case studies, and guest speakers, participants will learn the theory and day-to-day application of copyright, share best practices, and collectively try to wrap our heads around its many contradictions.
