Axiata Young Talent Programme Young CEO Development Program’s Bootcamp 3 was a blast! Our team’s 3rd place finish in the Circular Economy Challenge was a highlight, but the real win was the learning. Collaborating (and snacking) with diverse teammates, we tackled Qarbotech’s challenge, a world away from my expertise. It forced me to see the issue from new angles and appreciate the importance of clear communication and practical solutions. Ditching jargon, we focused on core issues impacting Qarbotech, their customers, our government, and the environment. This simplicity resonated with the business and the judges.

Delighted to have met the brilliant Joanne Carmichael from Arup yesterday evening! She shared insights on sustainable transport planning using design and infrastructure for a more equitable and environmentally sound future. Listening to her personal journey as a woman leader in this field added depth to the conversation. Huge kudos to Women In Rail Malaysia for organising such a stimulating event. It was also fantastic to reconnect with familiar faces – being a member since my internship days at YTL Construction in 2019 has definitely fostered a strong network :)

Feels great to return to my secondary school for a second year, sharing insights on what to do after SPM with Form 4 & 5 students. Huge thanks again to Goh Yi Chung and the team 🩵 The panel emphasised that academic success is just one puzzle piece. The real magic happens when you balance studies, social life, and extracurriculars. It’s how students develop leadership skills and become all-rounders prepared for any path. One student was full of questions, including the ever-relevant, “stress management tips?” (Honestly, we’re still figuring that out overselves…). 😆 His questions got deeper, revealing his anxieties about being called a “loser”. Just by participating, he’s already showed tons of courage and confidence. I said, “Think about it, you raised your hand and asked SIX questions! Does that sound like a loser to you?” He shook his head, a small smile breaking through. “Exactly! You were the star of the session! You had everyone’s attention.” His curiosity and the adorable Perry the Platypus drawing he gifted me were the perfect reminders of why I love doing this stuff. It’s all about connections made through shared experiences and simple acts of kindness.

I'm all for brightening up our communities, but the wave of government-funded low-cost housing projects painted in these... loud colour schemes has me scratching my head. These jarring colours are a total eyesore, disrupting the harmony of their surroundings and diminishing the perceived value of the properties. In fact even the surrounding properties. See https://lnkd.in/dnYiuq_S Is there a cost-cutting reason behind these choices, or is there a design philosophy I'm simply missing? This has been on my mind for far too long…. Would it really cost significantly more to use a more subdued, neutral colour palette? In fact, it seems that these colourful designs might even require more labour and paint, potentially increasing costs. Would love to hear from architects, developers, and anyone else involved in these projects on the rationale behind these colour choices. Our built environment is our billboard to the world. Kerb appeal isn’t just about aesthetics; it reflects our city and country’s identity. To become the global hub we aspire to be, this extends beyond buildings to include infrastructure, public spaces, and overall city planning. A well-considered approach that prioritises both aesthetics and functionality showcases Malaysia's potential, retaining residents and attracting visitors and investors.

Pumped to join Closing The Gap as a mentor! Over the years, I’ve gained valuable experience and exposure (and a few bumps along the road). I’m eager to share that knowledge with a brilliant high school student in our community. Here’s to their success - together :)

Absolutely honoured to be invited to speak at the Modular Affordable Housing Conference. Back in university, I was super fascinated by Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction (PPVC) and Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DfMA). Excited to dive into Vertically Integrated Supply Chain and its impact on lean production in modular construction. With countries like Australia grappling with housing and construction cost and labour crises, this conversation couldn’t be more timely. Grateful for this opportunity and looking forward to learning together at the conference :)
