Last month as a final homage to Earth Month, our Madewell associates had the opportunity to learn how recycling works at North America’s largest recycling center—Sunset Park Materials Recovery Facility. Our group was able to experience the state-of-the-art sorting process, viewed hundreds of tons of recyclables coming from all over NYC, and learned how SMR processes 1,000 tons of materials each day! By 2025, 100% of our packaging types will be sustainability sourced and free of virgin plastic. It was an inspiring day to learn about how NYC’s recycling efforts come to life, and how we can continue to do our part #EarthMonth #Recycling #Sustainability #TeamMadewell

Mpact Recycling was founded upon being able to service the packaging industry by reclaiming and recycling as much post-consumer waste as possible, thus planting the seeds of a full circular economy. As recently as 2022, we helped recycle over 700,000 tonnes of packaging waste rather than send it to landfill, turning them back into many useful new packaging products for our clients. This isn’t exactly the perfect circular future we’re committed to, but it’s a start. In an age where environmental concerns are at the forefront, we feel it’s important to visualise the potential of circularity beyond packaging; circularity as the basis of a more innovative, sustainable, and resilient world.
