Beat Technology Powers Newly Launched Legible App Vancouver BC’s Legible Inc., has launched Legible Unbound, its eBook and audiobook web and mobile app platforms, powered by Norway’s Beat Technology.    Legible Unbound provides unlimited access to an extensive curated catalogue of eBooks and audiobooks and the first-ever Librarian AI, developed by Legible to provide entertaining and informative customer recommendations, along with music and animation in Legible’s world-first interactive Living Books. Unbound is available worldwide at $12.99/month as an extension to Legible’s existing online retail store.    The integration of the LibrarianAI, Legible’s proprietary conversational ecommerce bot for deep book recommendations, is the first of many technical innovations planned under the Legible and Beat Technology partnership.   “Our aim with Legible and the Unbound app is to make books available and accessible to everyone possible,” stated Kaleeg Hainsworth, Legible’s CEO. “We have long been aware of Beat’s experience and their wealth of knowledge in the digital reading space, and our partnership with them creates the perfect team for making brand new products available while scaling global revenue. Kindle integration! We shipped a new feature that gives owners of NFTs with token-bound PDFs and EPUBs the ability to seamlessly send those files to their Kindle devices or app for easy reading. Our protocol and app already enabled authors to encrypt and attach their books to their NFTs, which they could then sell, but until now the ability for buyers to actually read those token-bound books was hampered by terrible UX—no one wants to read a novel on their desktop! Our goal with this feature is to bridge the gap between authors' desire to make the sale of token-bound ebooks a viable business model and their real-world aspirations to not only sell books—but have people read them. You might think it's a bit ironic we're integrating with a web2 platform that we ultimately want to disintermediate, but the truth is most readers still use Kindle to read ebooks. So until web3-native ebook readers are prevalent, we feel it's necessary to help authors meet readers where they are so they can use web3 tech but still reach audiences beyond the crypto-native community. We recently integrated our app with Kindle, which I believe is an important move as we continue to demystify web3 technology and demonstrate how it can be used in innovative ways to add value for creators. The Kindle integration gives owners of token-bound PDFs and EPUBs the ability to send those files straight to their Kindle devices or app for easy reading. While many indie authors have recognized web3 tech's potential to give them control of their content and own the relationship with fans (indie authors who sell their ebooks on Kindle have no idea who the buyers are), there have been some serious UX issues which have prevented one thing authors want in addition to selling books—for people to actually read their books. Darkblock's Send-to-Kindle feature now lets readers by ebooks as NFTs but read them in a way in which they're already comfortable. Maybe it's ironic to integrate a web2 platform at the same time we're helping indie authors disintermediate that same platform, but at this early stage we want to help authors benefit from web3 tech, get their books read, and show the rest of the world how non-fungible tokens can be utilized beyond collectible JPEGs.
