Join us on 6 June (9:00 a.m. EDT/3:00 p.m. CEST) for the OCLC-LIBER Europe "Building for the future" closing plenary session. Libraries are navigating a complex landscape of emerging technologies and ever-growing quantities of data, impacting library operations, and transforming service offerings. Responding to these changes is critical, and between November 2023 and April 2024, OCLC and LIBER jointly convened three interactive discussion sessions to closely examine the opportunities and responsibilities libraries face in providing state-of-the-art services in this challenging environment. The 75-minute closing plenary session will offer key insights gleaned from these sessions, synthesized from the numerous small group discussions of transcontinental participants from the LIBER and OCLC Research Library Partnership networks. A moderated panel of LIBER representatives will respond to this overview and reflect upon how these discussions can help research libraries collaboratively plan in these challenging times. ⤵️ Click below to register for this session and learn more about the series. --- #OCLC #OCLCresearch #AcademicLibrary #AcademicLibraries #ResearchLibrary #ResearchLibraries #Library #Libraries #Librarian #Librarians #LibraryLife #LibraryLove

In our newest blog post, Alysson Mazoni, PhD and Rodrigo Costas Comesaña discuss the importance of not only opening up information, but also democratising the access and use of it. They walk us through the steps they took in the InSySPo project at Universidade Estadual de Campinas to facilitate this.

The Environmental Data Science Book (EDS Book) project is like a big, open library that helps scientists working on environmental problems share their work using special online notebooks. These notebooks let them show how they do their experiments so anyone can understand or use the same methods. The project uses popular online tools to make sure these notebooks are easy to find and use by everyone, not just scientists. It’s all about helping tackle a huge problem, like protecting our planet. The idea is to make science open and accessible so that everyone can contribute to solving these big issues. By making it easier for scientists to work together and share their discoveries in a simple way, the EDS book is creating a community that can make a real difference in facing our world's environmental challenges. They’re inviting everyone to join in by asking questions, sharing ideas, or adding to the project. This way, it’s not just a tool for scientists, but for anyone interested in helping the environment. The goal is to make science open and collaborative so that we can all be part of solving the grand challenges together. #grandchallenge https://lnkd.in/dE_KBqEa

Thanks to MUHAMMAD SAJEER P for the quick response and helping me close this request! Request help from anyone who is using Web of Science and has access to it institutionally. I want to check out if a particular kind of project is possible using Web of Science, and then get a paid subscription if that is the case. For more context, I am attempting to find and map all research that has happened between two countries, so I need access to the author affiliation metadata from a citation repository. So far Web of Science has been the only source I can find for it. Please do reach out on comments or on DM!

SWIB24 – 16th Semantic Web in Libraries Conference 25 – 27 November 2024, online Call for Proposals Submission Deadline: 26 May 2024 SWIB conference (Semantic Web in Libraries) is an annual conference, being held for the 16th time. SWIB24 will happen online to ensure inclusion of as many participants as possible while minimizing the ecological footprint of the conference. SWIB focuses on Linked Open Data (LOD) in libraries and related organizations. It is well established as an event where IT staff, developers, librarians, and researchers from all over the world meet and mingle and learn from each other. The topics of talks and workshops at SWIB revolve around opening data, linking data and creating tools and software for LOD production scenarios. These areas of focus are supplemented by presentations of research projects in applied sciences, industry applications, and LOD activities in other areas.

Just updated the "Echoes of History" project page. https://lnkd.in/ejaNmyss Here I explain the project in more detail, what has been done so far, what I am currently working on, and the plans for the future (including a rough project plan for the next years). All in preparation of gearing up for the first round of fundraising (which will begin in the days to come - more than happy if you know any organisation that could be worth to approach). In the background, I started developing the first version of the database - the core of the entire project. Currently, I am ingesting the chaptered interviews I conducted. Keywording every chapter, as to make cross referencing later on, and to make the large amounts of data workable. This database is designed to grow with time, allowing every type of source (physical & digital) to be listed. Once the interviews have been added, I will start ingesting data from my current reading list and international archives. Essentially building the first database of its kind, which will collect everything relating to Ovaherero history. With other researchers, experts, academics, journalists, historians, etc. being able to add/submit their work eventually. The way I am working I am already beginning with rights clearance, which will save massive headaches later on.
