Today we launch the #READYSummit in Harare, Zimbabwe.
The READY Summit stands as a pivotal moment in our collective pursuit of a world free from the burdens of HIV and social inequalities. This gathering serves as a dynamic platform, bringing together diverse groups— young people living with HIV, adolescent girls and young women, those identifying as LGBTIQ+, young sex workers, and young people with disabilities. The summit is not merely an event; it's a nexus where shared experiences converge, fostering unity and collaboration to confront the underlying inequalities fueling the epidemic.
The objectives of the READY Summit are clear and ambitious. Firstly, it aims to raise awareness about the distinctive challenges faced by various marginalized youth groups concerning Sexual Reproductive Health (SRHR) and HIV. Through open dialogue and shared narratives, the summit seeks to amplify the voices of those often unheard.
Secondly, the summit aspires to catalyze cross-sectoral collaboration and knowledge exchange among these marginalized youth groups. By doing so, the goal is to incubate innovative solutions that enhance access to SRHR services and contribute significantly to the overarching mission of ending AIDS.
Moreover, the READY Summit seeks to foster a profound sense of unity and solidarity among young people engaged in the formidable fight against HIV and social inequalities. By acknowledging our collective strength, we empower each participant to become a catalyst for change within their communities.
Finally, the summit serves as a rallying point to mobilize commitments and resources from stakeholders who share in the vision of a world free from HIV and inequality. It is a call to action, urging the global community to stand together and support initiatives that address the unique challenges faced by youth on the frontlines of the fight against HIV. The READY Summit represents not just a gathering but a transformative force poised to reshape the narrative and trajectory of the global response to HIV and inequality among youth.
I thank our donor, The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Maputo, the young people, and partners (ADPP, CANGO, REPSSI, Y Plus Global, PATA, Zvandiri) for making this dream come true.
