The UN Sustianable Development Goals set a target of achieving gender equality by 2030 - we are strikingly off track. ⚠️
📊Just 15% of gender equality indicators are on track, with 23% “far or very far” off.
⏱️At the current rate of progress, it will take not just decades, but hundreds of years to achieve gender equality. Without this, for the foreseeable future, girls will remain at risk of child marriage, the law will fail to protect women, and we will not see fair representation in leadership positions.
🤞🏽However, there is hope! The majority of gender equality indicators (62%) are just a “moderate distance” away from getting on track. This means that through intentional effort and even incremental changes, the world could soon find itself in a much more optimistic position in relation to achieving gender equality.
This International Women’s Day, let’s reflect on the areas in which we can improve, individually and through our work. Yes we seem to have made progress in recent years, but the data suggests that we need to do much more to achieve true gender equality.

4moGender equality is a long way ahead. In fact, the power structures are male-dominated. Rest of the people, on whom power is being exercised, they are 'conditioned' to accept that male domination. Power will influence every other facet of life including, culture and beliefs. So, gender equality is neither a project, nor a program. It is about practices of daily life, from home to office, from rights holders to duty bearers, from bottom-up to top-down from genetics to behaviors. It is a process and way of life of a society. Therefore, it is a long way ahead. We need to accept this honestly and whole heartedly and need to keep going, without getting distracted from small, cosmetic and superficial changes. Best of luck
