December and 2023 Round-up First thing's first, Happy New Year! I've just got back from a week of seeing family in Spain, so my batteries are fully recharged and I'm ready to get back into action. With my holidays and other things just before leaving, I didn't have time to get my December round-up ready for the end of the month, so here it is: ⚕️ Lots of medical translations from various clients, ranging from medical reports to clinical trial documentation. 🔎 Regular review projects of academic articles and clinical trial documents. 🎞️ Not much subtitling this month, but a few things from regular subtitling clients. 📄 I've had a few direct clients get in touch for various document translations (birth certificates, academic transcripts, medical reports etc.) 2️⃣ 0️⃣ 2️⃣ 3️⃣ Looking back, 2023 has been a great year for me as a translator. I have a solid base of regular clients and often get contacted by new faces. I can also now say that the majority of my workload is in medical translation - although I still do get subtitling work through. A glance at my Notion database tells me that in 2023 there were: ☑️ Over 688,000 words translated/reviewed ☑️ Over 700 minutes worth of subtitling ☑️ 8 new clients It may not seem like much, but as they say, comparison is the thief of joy! I'm very proud of what I've achieved this year, and I'm grateful that I work in a field where I can learn something new every day. I know, I know, my November round-up is late... 😅 Last month was nice and steady. ⚕️ My usual medical reports 🔎 Revising academic articles 🎞️ Subtitling some company promo material for a regular client 📋 Clinical trial documentation 💄 A revision of a cosmetics document, which was something different! 🆕 Got to work on a nice subtitling job with a new LinkedIn connection. On a personal note, last week I was in Berlin on holiday! It was my first time ever visiting and it was so nice to be able to get away from work. I only wish it wasn't so cold and snowy! That's what I get for going at the end of November, eh? First of all... Happy Halloween! 👻 Time for me to rise from the LinkedIn dead to post my monthly round-up! After the insanity that was September, October has been much more manageable. I've still been kept busy but I've tried to be more strict with what I take on so I don't get overwhelmed like last month. ⚕️ The month started with handing in a 32k-word translation on ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration biopsy and core needle biopsy. I had obviously encountered those concepts before in translations, but I learned so much about the ins and outs through this job. 📝 My usual slew of medical reports. 🌐 More web content for a Catalonian hospital. 🔍 A 28k revision on a rather unpleasant topic. I don't know whether to call it an academic article, journalism, or a personal anecdote... It was a very strange text! Aside from work, anyone who follows my Twitter (feels wrong to call it X) will have seen that I passed the Goethe Zertifikat B2 exam! 🥳 I sat the exam in Glasgow on the 7th of October and got my results on the 20th. I was actually very lucky in the speaking exam and got 'How to learn about the culture of another country' as my topic, so obviously I had to throw something about language learning in there! My scores were 83% listening, 90% reading, 94% speaking and 96% writing. (Remember it's just as important to celebrate achievements outside of work! ✨) Also, I turned 29 on Sunday! Despite having COVID in the week leading up to my birthday, I was back to testing negative by the day, so was able to celebrate. Anyway, that's all I can think of. September feels like it might have been the busiest month of the year for me so far. On top of all of my regular projects, I've had several large ones which have been quite the challenge. I'm also writing this post a few days in advance (and at 11:30 p.m.!) so I can spend my work day actually working 🙈 And so I'm going to leave it at that for this round-up. Feels like I’ve only just posted my July round up and it’s time for the next… August definitely kept me ticking over! ⚕️Plenty of medical reports, as usual! 💻 8 articles for the website of a Catalonian hospital (with more on the way next week!) 🎞️ Subtitled some social media content for one of my regular clients, which was also the first time I’d worked with Instagram Reels. 🩺Translated a clinical trial contract, which was somewhat out of my comfort zone because of the legal nature of the text. 🔎 Reviewed the subtitles for an upcoming Easy Catalan video planned for October. 🎁 I translated a few different product information leaflets, both for cosmetic and pharmaceutical products. 🤖But my main job this month came from a client from last year, who had gotten in touch again for me to do the English translation of a new robotics and programming course they’ve created. Outside of work, I’ve been working on my German in preparation for the Goethe B2 exam at the start of October. Definitely starting to feel like I’ve rushed into it, but maybe that’s just pre-exam nerves manifesting already 😅 If anyone has any tips for the Schreiben and Sprechen part of the Goethe B2, please send them my way! ✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅🟩🟩🟩🟩 #xl8 #translator #litranslator #medicaltranslation

Time for the monthly round-up. I had a good July, with queries for a few promising projects for later this year and also getting another big project from a client from last year. I've had a lot more Catalan work this month, which has been really fun! Here's a run-down: ⚕️ Medical reports coming out of my ears! 🔍 Revision work for regular clients. 🥼 A few translations of clinical trial documents. 🌐 Translated some more website content for a large Catalonian hospital. 🎓 University degree certifications from Catalan to English. 👩🏫 Reviewed some Catalan>English educational content for Easy Catalan. 📝 Translated some civil documentation. 🎞️ Subtitled some really interesting videos for an agency client about a town in Valencia. ❓ A once-a-year staff satisfaction questionnaire from an old agency client. Hello, LinkedIn! I hope you're all doing well! 😊 It's been quite a busy period for me, with lots of things keeping me occupied (hence my absence from posting). But hey, it’s always better to be busy than have nothing better to do, right?
