Here at T47, we’re always keen to highlight positive action for the planet, and to take learning from what others do to help improve our own processes. Following on from our previous update on Earth Day 2024, Account Manager Aaron Marchant, together with our very own Company Sustainability Lead, Holly Simons, have been investigating positive steps taken by global pop icon Billie Eilish, who has released her third studio album today. The 22-year-old creative has placed sustainability at the heart of her music with a litany of measures taken to reduce the environmental impact of what is likely to be one of 2024’s biggest albums: - Production of a standard black variant vinyl from 100% recycled black vinyl. - A limited run of seven coloured vinyl editions made from Eco-Mix or BioVinyl; the former is created by recycling the offcuts from other albums which cannot otherwise be reused, whilst the latter uses non-fossil-fuel materials, such as recycled cooking oil, to manufacture Polyvinyl chloride, reducing carbon emissions by 90% against virgin vinyl. - The use of FSC certified recycled paper/board packaging made 100% from post-consumer waste and recycled pre-consumer fibres. The ink used is raw plant-based and water-based dispersion varnish, and in place of shrink wrap, the sleeves are 100% recycled and re-usable.  - All shipped items packaged in up to 93% recycled and 100% recyclable boxes. - Cassette shells made from recycled shell pieces that are ground down and re-used to make new cassette shells, avoiding the creation of new plastic. - Finally, all merchandise clothing uses residual dead stock from prior productions, organic or recycled polyester or cotton, non-toxic dye inputs and intentional design processes for circularity, reduced climate impact and harm to people and planet. Posters are made from 100% recycled paper. Whilst not within one of our usual operational sectors, it is important for us to look outside our own industry to find worthy practices to champion and learn from as we seek to make similar strides to reducing our plastic consumption and improve sustainability. Under the surface, there are many parallels with the production of promotional materials that we can continue to explore as we look at how we support our clients in communicating with local communities. PSA: Trends are overconsumption based tactics to get you to buy more stuff you don’t need, and it’s 100% contradictory to sustainability goals. Living sustainably doesn’t promote the fluff, the trends, and the “buy me” mentality. It promotes using what you have until it no longer functions. And if you’re really cool, you morph that disfunctional piece of whatever into something else useful. REDUCE - Your consumption REUSE - What you can RECYCLE - As a last resort

Unplug chargers as they can still consume energy even when they’re not charging. ⠀ 🌱 Recycle: make sure you’re recycling properly. Not everything can go in your recycling bin, so it’s important to know your local guidelines. ⠀ 🌱 Plant a Tree: or a plant, or a whole garden! But I've also seen the power of collective action and innovation in tackling this challenge. From grassroots initiatives to multinational collaborations, there's a growing momentum to reduce, reuse, and recycle plastics. 🔄 To address the root causes of plastic pollution, we must embrace systemic change and adopt a circular economy approach. This means rethinking the way we design, produce, and consume goods, with an emphasis on minimizing waste and maximizing resource efficiency. 👗 Fashion, in particular, has a significant role to play in advancing the circular economy. The fashion industry is one of the largest contributors to pollution and waste, but it also holds immense potential for positive change. Santa's workshop may not run on renewables, but here are some companies that prioritize green initiatives. 1. Patagonia - The region has taken significant steps toward environmental sustainability by eliminating nylon, a material made from non-renewable petrochemicals and nitrogen fertilizer, from many of its products. Instead, eco-friendly alternatives like organic cotton and recycled polyester are used in over 60% of fabrics. Their dedication to sustainability has earned them recognition on various platforms, including being listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for ten consecutive years and securing the top rank on Newsweek’s America’s Most Responsible Companies list for three consecutive years.
