The difference between a 911 call about an active shooter and a ShotSpotter alert is speed and safety. When officers quickly receive information leading them to a potential crime scene, their ability to secure the area, gather evidence, and save lives is significantly increased. Our goal is to help officers save one more life. #publicsafety

Had time to digest the FBI's 2023 active shooter annual report. While the number of incidents declined slightly from 2022 - 48 vs 50 - it remains 8 TIMES higher than in early 2000s. The first step to solving a problem is admitting you have one. America, we have a problem. And it will take systemic improvements to correct - to mental healthcare, societal norms, firearms legislation, security and law enforcement training. What we have documented here are 48 avoidable tragedies. #activeshooter #activethreat #publicsafety #gunviolence #security #lawenforcement #fbi https://lnkd.in/gmPQZutr

FBI released their 2023 active shooter report. They report one active shooter in the K-12 space—the tragedy at Nashville’s Covington School shooting. To my knowledge there has been one ( Perry, Ia January, 2024) FBI-defined active shooter events in the K-12 space thus far in 2024. These dramatic reductions have occurred because of the great work done in the space on BTA, anonymous reporting systems, physical security improvements, adding school safety directors and culture changes within K-12 and law enforcement. With that said, additional work and continued improvement are needed to eliminate active shooters from the K-12 space. With that said, it is my belief a shift in how we discuss “school safety” needs to occur. The threat matrix facing K-12 is enormous, we need the attention, money, and conversation that worked for reducing active shooters in school to now include reducing the threat of community-based gun violence, increased aggression, overdoses, robberies, intruders, drug dealing, theft, and so much more. Edited: removed no active shooter event in 2024 after being reminded about the tragedy in Perry, Ia.

Something that's important to know about our Guard911 apps is that our company was formed in 2013 by law enforcement and technology experts with experience and a deep psychological approach to active shooter emergencies. Our apps were designed with a single focus – to provide an early warning system for armed intruder tragedies and save precious seconds that can mean the difference between life and death. Our goal is to get the first officers on the scene as quickly as possible to neutralize the threat and save lives. #Guard911 #schoolsafety #SchoolGuard #notificationtime #alertsystem

You do not have a true Workplace Violence Program if yours is composed mostly of statements of zero tolerance, banned weapons on site, active shooter plan and/or required reporting of threats or violent acts. #organizationalculture #programdevelopment #processimprovement

A self-defense incident in Charleston, WV, underscores the dangers of domestic violence and the life-or-death decisions it can force. A 19-year-old woman shot her 31-year-old boyfriend in self-defense after a violent assault. The case is under review, with no charges filed at this time. This serves as a reminder of the gravity of self-defense situations and the importance of being prepared to protect yourself when faced with immediate threats. #SelfDefense #DomesticViolenceAwareness #DefensiveGunUse https://lnkd.in/ePXtvbh2

We've updated this popular post from Walk the Talk America and imagery with updated data. We used the 2022 FBI Active Shooter data, which is why the top wording was changed. Since we last posted with data from 2018, we lose 9 MORE people EVERY day to suicide by firearm, according to the CDC. "The FBI defines an "active shooter" as one or more individuals actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a populated area. Recent active shooter incidents have underscored the need for a coordinated response by law enforcement and other first responders to save lives." Mass shootings are awful but only make up a small percentage of deaths by firearm. We lose 74 people EVERY DAY to suicide by firearm. Data from CDC and FBI for 2022: All firearm deaths: 48,204 All suicides: 49,476 Suicides by firearm: 27,032 (54.6% of all suicides, 56.1% of all firearm deaths) Individuals killed in active shootings: 100 (.2% of all firearm deaths) #GunsAndMentalHealth #SuicidePreventionWeek #SuicidePrevention #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #SuicidePreventionAwareness #MentalHealthEducation #GunCulture #GunCultureEducation #EndTheStigma #MentalIllness #MentalIllnessAwareness #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealthAwareness #mentalwellness

At DiFoggio Electric we stay current with advancements in electrical technologies and in specific related industries. In fact, we’re members of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Understanding the new technologies and safety is job one. So, this story from the Dept. of Fire Services Mass Fire Academy on lithium ion batteries caught my eye. www.difoggioelectric.com #skilledtrades #vocationaleducation #luxuryhomebuilders #constructionprojectmanagement #facilitymanagement
Thanks to local fire investigators and the Massachusetts State Police Fire Investigation Unit, our new #LithiumIonBattery Fire Investigative Checklist has identified 50 Li-ion fires across Massachusetts in the past six months. That's more than twice as many as previous reporting methods caught in an entire year. Visit https://ow.ly/Fxi650Rilb4 for preliminary findings and safety tips.
