On-demand transit services are still growing in popularity, but there is a lack of structured integration of these services into the transit planning framework and cycle. Alaa Itani, MASc. and I have a new paper out with Amer Shalaby and Brendon Hemily looking at how this service integration has been studied and implemented in the past, and provides some guiding principles for the future. You can read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/gfMyhysk

I’m asking you to Help Shape North Florida’s Transportation Future Final Citizen Survey, which closes August 30 Transportation improvements are needed to keep our economy moving by road, sea, rail and air. As part of its regional transportation planning the North Florida TPO is conducting the final survey for the 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP). Every five years, the North Florida TPO revises the area’s transportation plan which has a 20–25-year horizon and addresses roads, transit, freight, bike and pedestrian needs as well as technology for our growing region. Citizen insight and feedback are crucial as the TPO develops a comprehensive plan that meets the diverse needs of our community. In the two previous surveys, citizens helped identify key transportation priorities and challenges. The TPO has incorporated citizen feedback into the initial stages of the planning process. This final survey focuses on specific proposals and initiatives that have been developed based on earlier feedback and detailed technical analyses. As the TPO finalizes the LRTP, we need citizen help once again to refine our strategies and ensure they align with the community's vision for a safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation network. This feedback will help improve the transportation landscape in North Florida for many years to come. Learn more about the study and access the five-minute survey at www.2050PathForward.com. The survey closes August 30.

🚄🌐 An ultra-high-speed ground transportation (UHSGT) system could soon link three major cities in the Pacific Northwest, drastically reducing travel times between Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver. RSG, in partnership with STV, has been integral to helping to shape this future. Through our team's independent, unbiased analysis of three prior feasibility studies, we've delivered a better understanding of the trade-offs between cost, speed, ridership, and level of service to project stakeholders. To learn more about this work and how our team collaborated to deliver solutions, check out STV's recent article on this project: https://lnkd.in/ewHz53Dm You can also read RSG's case study by clicking here: https://lnkd.in/gMU4bd_E #TransportationPlanning #Data #Research

A new community update shares the latest news on the City’s rail grade separation discussions underway, including meetings set, ways to share input and next steps. The City is holding community conversations around solutions to increased traffic as Caltrain electrifies and more trains run through the Palo Alto corridor, and what we can do to keep everyone moving and safe. These discussions are informing upcoming decisions on alternatives for grade separation — making roads crossing the railroad lines pass over or under the tracks — to improve traffic circulation and increase public safety. There are seven streets where people and vehicles can cross the railroad tracks in Palo Alto. While three of these intersections — also known as grade crossings — are above the road and already grade separated, there are four remaining that cross the tracks at the same level, posing traffic and safety issues.
