We believe culture has a unique ability to bring people together – which is why we’re backing Hammersmith & Fulham’s bid to be London Borough of Culture 2025! Our local area is fortunate to have an incredible mix of historic cultural heritage that has brought communities together for decades. And now local arts and community organisations are coming together to raise the flag for culture and connect people across the borough. Please back the bid here, and find out more about what’s planned: https://lnkd.in/eUCDkqhC Hammersmith & Fulham Council #westlondon #culture #hammersmith #fulham #community

The arts are fundamental to our humanity. They ennoble and inspire us—fostering creativity, empathy, and beauty. The arts also strengthen our communities socially, educationally, and economically. In Massachusetts, arts and culture is a $27.2 billion industry—4.2% of the state economy—and supports 135,181 jobs (bigger than construction, education, and transportation). The arts accelerate economic recovery: a growth in arts employment has a positive and causal effect on overall employment (U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis). Springfield’s nonprofit arts industry alone generates $82.4 million in economic activity annually—spending by organizations and their audiences—which supports 1,483 jobs and generates $15.3 million in local, state, and federal government revenue (Americans for the Arts AEP6 study) Randy Cohen MASSCreative Mass Cultural Council Tiffany Allecia M.Ed.

Today marks the launch of City Allies, a project that's incredibly close to my heart. After months of getting everything set up, it's ready to reach out to as many of you as possible. At City Allies, I'm embarking on an ethnographic journey—a deep dive into the lives, experiences, and stories of the City of London's workers and residents. I am on a quest to discover the heartbeat of the City. Your experiences, your insights, and your stories are the essence of London. It’s time they were heard! City Allies is all about bringing City People Together to work in allyship to create a more inclusive, supportive, and vibrant urban community. This project is my personal invitation to you to explore the City not as mere observers but as storytellers and listeners, unravelling the narratives that make the City of London what it is. It's about connecting through the power of stories, and understanding the lives that pulse within this urban landscape. City Allies springs from my own desire to shine a light on the vibrant mix of individuals who make this place buzz with life — people like you and me, who live and/or work here, shaping its identity every day. I don't know what to expect but I know it's going to be exciting. Join me on this journey. If you work or live in the City, reach out to me. Help me bring to light the fascinating stories of the people who keep the City thriving. If you are interested in volunteering for this initiative and enjoy social media management, meeting new people, gathering stories or organising fun events in the City, send me a PM. www.cityallies.london https://lnkd.in/egDdNCJM #CityAllies #Allyship #CityPeople #CityofLondon #Belonging #Storytelling #Inclusivity #Togetherness #CityPeopleTales #ChroniclesOfUrbanLife #CityWorkers #CityResidents

Cultural compact: How to fund grassroots arts and boost wellbeing in deprived places Alan Waters, Culture Lead for Key Cities and previous leader of Norwich City Council and Sarie Mairs Slee, who previously led the Salford Culture and Place Partnership, discuss how the Cultural Compact, which partners institutions with artists and grassroots initiatives, can help unlock investment Reboot an arts venue with Bilbao-effect architecture and the rest will follow – that was the regeneration playbook as written twenty years ago. The latest thinking, however, flips that old trope on its head and asks how we can support grassroots culture and public engagement in arts production. According to a recent report from Key Cities – a national network of 27 cities across the UK, the social benefits of participation in culture demands a more inclusive approach to stimulating and funding the arts economy. In particular, the report stresses the link between low cultural engagement and deprivation. Read more: https://bit.ly/43L5TW7

Many artistic practices in our Golden State of California are embedded in traditional cultures. Artists and culture bearers use traditional craft, music, and dance to foster healing and build community. Diverse neighborhoods across the state also benefit from ethnically-specific cultural organizations. In underserved areas where there is no access to art, culturally-specific organizations provide space for creative expression and healing to youth groups and immigrant communities. Cultural strategies such as placekeeping are driving social change, helping neighborhoods maintain their cultural character, and offsetting the effects of gentrification. Programs such as California Cultural Districts help preserve the diverse fabric of our state’s cultural diversity and promote cultural tourism. We need to fully fund programs like these to ensure our state does a good job of protecting cultural communities and diversity of expression. Join our #ACCM2024 campaign this April to prove that #ArtWorkisRealWork.
