In 2022, eight members of the Welcoming Project in New Britain, CT co-sponsored their first Syrian family. It was such a positive experience that they — along with the Syrian family they co-sponsored — decided to sponsor a new family, this time choosing the Welcome Corps program. In March 2024, they welcomed a Syrian family of six: Zyad Al Mahameed, Souzan Al Jarad, and their children. In Syria, Zyad said his family lived a nice, simple life before civil war broke out in 2011. They were able to cross the border into Jordan in 2012 — but their lives were still so difficult and Zyad worried about his children’s future. “It was a very wonderful shock and surprise to see these wonderful people waiting for us. There was a person who spoke Arabic who was helping us communicate,” Zyad said. “They brought us to a little apartment which was furnished which was waiting for us. There was actually even dinner, a meal which was even warm when we arrived.” After sponsor Susan Graham-Handley took the family to tour the elementary school, they stopped by the park on the way back to the family’s apartment. All four kids raced to the swings. It was a moment Susan said she’d never forget. Sponsorship is providing Zyad, Souzan, and their children with a second chance. UNICEF, short for the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, is an organization that was created in 1946. The main purpose of the organization is to provide humanitarian aid to children around the world. It was originally intended as a relief fund to help children after World War II. In 1953, UNICEF adopted the mandate to help vulnerable children all over the world, regardless of the cause. The Day for Change is an initiative by UNICEF to raise awareness about the condition of children and raise funds for their wellbeing. #ieata, #artsaccessbility, #expressiveartstherapy, #expressiveartsheals #expressiveartsactivism, #creativity, #ieatacommunity, #creativecommunity #expressivearts, #creatives, #creativeartstherapy #experssiveartsactivism, #neuroaesthetics, #expressiveartseducator #expressiveartsadvocate, #expressiveartsfacilitator #expressiveartstherapist,#ieatareat,#ieatareace #intermodalarts, #multimodalarts, #integrativearts #artsbased, #artstherapy, #reat, #reace #creativespirit,#shiningstar

We stay and deliver #ForEveryChild, no matter where they are. In 2023, UNICEF delivered $893.07 million in emergency supplies to 81 countries and areas. UNICEF responded to the #Syria and #Türkiye earthquakes, conflict and unrest in the Democratic Republic of the #Congo, #Haiti, #Gaza, #Sudan and #Ukraine, among other crises, that forced millions from their homes with more children in need than ever before. In the face of growing humanitarian crises, UNICEF mounted large-scale supply responses and quickly mobilized essential items to support life-saving relief, early recovery, long-term development, and preparedness for the future. Now more than ever, UNICEF needs your help to get life-saving essentials to vulnerable children and families. On this March 1st, 105th anniversary of Korean Independence Movement Day, I plead with you to stand with Pal3stine. By (continuing to/) calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, and donating to humanitarian relief. Tomorrow, March 2nd is International Day of Action for Palestine. I'll be at LA City Hall for our regional/city action. If you'd like help ✊🏽 finding an action (whether in-person or through email/phone) or 💸 where to donate to help (linking article here about how humanitarian aid does indeed get to folks it's intended for, even if it's complex) Please don't hesitate to comment or DM me. The death toll in the genocide in G@za just surpassed 30,000. Researchers predict more than 74,000 people will die over the next 6 months due to violence and disease (London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and the Johns Hopkins Center for Humanitarian Health as reported by Washington Post on 2/23/24). We don't have to lose 100,000+ lives in 10 months, but that's the direction we're headed in. This post is not about religion or politics or a history lesson. There are people far better at doing that than me. This is about humanity. YOUR humanity, OUR humanity as much as it is about the human beings who deserve to live and not be annihilated in a cruel and heinous manner as a form of collective punishment. I can't sit here and celebrate Korean Independence and everything my ancestors fought for, were tortured and killed for while we continue to witness violence from so many colonial regimes and projects. My ancestors ask me to act and stand in solidarity, and this post is a small form of honoring collective liberation, Pal3stine, my heritage and myself. #ceasefirenow https://lnkd.in/gNcpsRMr

Member of advisory committee of Europe Prykhystok took part in Ukraine recovery conference Stanislav Kutsenko took part in Ukraine recovery conference in Berlin on June 11-12, 2024 (URC2024). Among the participants of URC2024 were the top-ranking authorities of EU and Ukraine, delegates from USA and other states. Main issues raised at conference were economic recovery, growth and resilience of Ukraine. During conference it was great possibility to establish contacts with more than 50 new partners, particularly, in Germany and Switzerland concerning organizing further respite stays and transplanted classes for Ukrainian children. Certain mayors of European cities expressed their interest to host Ukrainian children in upcoming months. Most valuable was contact with Congress of German cities (Deutscher Stadtetag). Deutscher Stadtetag expressed strong support in activities of EP in building bridges of solidarity and organizing respite stays for Ukrainian children. Representatives of this organization plan to share information about Europe Prykhystok with its member cities. Additional subject of meetings was assistance in shelters construction near frontline schools and in unoccupied regions of Ukraine. Several potential donors from Holland and Germany expressed interest in recovery of schools. Such events are great possibility for EP to enlighten its initiatives to help Ukrainian children and establish more twinning between EU and Ukrainian cities and hromadas. #EuropePrykhystok #SupportUkraine #GermanCities #RespiteStay #Fundraising #CommunityBuilding
