The compassionate care of a team of sponsors has given Meshack and Aimerance, a couple who met in a Tanzanian refugee camp, hope for a brighter future for their children. When the young Congolese family sought safety in the U.S., the Beacon Heights Welcoming Friends private sponsor group provided refuge and resources for the family in Fort Wayne, Ind. To help them find belonging beyond the fellowship of their Welcome Corps sponsorship group, the Beacon Heights Welcoming Friends were diligent in connecting Meshack and Aimerance with Fort Wayne’s Congolese community, giving them a greater sense of home in a new place. Happy #InternationalDayofFamilies! Family unity, a fundamental human right, should be accessible to refugees no matter where they come from or where their families are located. RefugePoint works to expand solutions to reunite refugee families and make family reunification more accessible to refugees worldwide. How is RefugePoint supporting families in 2024? -Through our Family Reunification Initiative, RefugePoint will play a leadership role in helping to reunite one million separated refugee families over the next five years. -Through the UNHCR Collaboration Project (UNCP), RefugePoint Experts work in various locations around the world to support family reunification cases. -RefugePoint’s Family Reunification Experts also help establish family reunification at the local level by developing the tools, systems, and structures necessary to institutionalize family reunification in countries of asylum, and providing training and capacity-building to other organizations to expand access to family reunification.

Refugees are individuals who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution, or disaster. They face immense challenges, including the loss of their homes, communities, and often their families. As we strive to build a more inclusive and compassionate world, it is crucial to address the needs of refugees, providing them with safety, support, and opportunities to rebuild their lives. Today, I would like to highlight Refugee Story Project. These non-profit aims to share the powerful stories of refugees from around the world, shedding light on their experiences, struggles, and triumphs. By amplifying their voices, we hope to foster understanding, empathy, and action within our communities. Join us in supporting refugees by: - Listening to and sharing their stories - Supporting community efforts to welcome and integrate refugees - Contributing to organizations dedicated to refugee aid and resettlement Together, we can make a difference and help refugees find hope and a new beginning. #Refugees #Inclusion #Compassion #RefugeeStoryProject #HumanRights #Advocacy

I'm thrilled to celebrate five years at HIAS! It's been an incredible journey working alongside dedicated colleagues and making a tangible impact on the lives of people worldwide. Here are some highlights from the past half-decade: - Crisis Response: Mobilized effective responses to the fall of Kabul, the war in Ukraine, and the Israel-Hamas conflict. We raised upwards of $1 million for humanitarian aid and facilitated the formation of 34 local private sponsorship groups to welcome over 100 individual refugees in California. - Policy Wins: Successfully advocated for policy and funding wins for HIAS' four California resettlement affiliates through strategic partnerships with organizations like Jewish Public Affairs Committee of California (JPAC) and the CHIRLA-led CA Welcomes Coalition. This resulted in securing $8 million over three years for asylee case management, putting up strong fronts to secure state support for asylum shelter programs at the border. - Partnership Expansion: Grew HIAS' reach by recruiting JFCS of Long Beach/West Orange County to become our newest California resettlement partner to earn U.S. Department of State approval to welcome newcomers. - Advocacy and Education: Designed and implemented numerous advocacy and educational programs to empower individuals to take action on behalf of refugees. These initiatives have had a profound impact on raising awareness and fostering support for our cause. While reflecting on our achievements, it's clear that the refugees, asylum seekers, and other forcibly displaced people are increasingly politicized worldwide, making our work more crucial than ever. I invite you support HIAS in these challenging times. Looking forward to continuing the work with so many of you across my network! #refugeeswelcome #refugeesupport #asylumseekers #asylum #humanitarian #humanitarianwork #humanitarianism #emergencyresponse #crisisresponse

A Refugee Family Reunification Story: Part 2 When Samira discovered that her son was alive, she applied for family reunification so Omer could join her in Canada. Family reunification is a rights-based legal pathway that allows refugees to be reunited with family members. At that time, Omer had been trafficked and was living in Chad in a dangerous situation. In Chad, a RefugePoint family reunification expert met with Omer and helped him with the steps needed to reunite with Samira. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic delayed this process. Finally, after years of separation and countless video calls, Samira and Omer were reunited in Vancouver in May of 2023. Holding Omer tightly, Samira said: “Tonight is the first night I will sleep peacefully in Canada.” Family unity, a fundamental human right, should be accessible to refugees no matter where they come from or where their families are located. Yet without help, these reunions are often not possible. We need your help to ensure this right becomes a reality for more and more people. Will you consider an end-of-year gift to support our vital work? Your contribution will help us support and reunite refugee families who are forced to flee their homes due to circumstances beyond their control. Together, we can reunite mothers with their children, like Samira and Omer, and support other refugees seeking safety. ➡️ https://buff.ly/3TjwVlx

WORLD REFUGEE DAY It is World Refugee Day today - part of refugee week with a focus this year on the importance of family. As the grandchild and child of a displaced family (my mother and her parents escaped from Germany) I am cognisant of the disruption, challenge, danger and ultimately heart wrenching decision that comes with leaving your home and a place that often holds great cultural and societal importance, ties and ancestral links over hundreds if not thousands of years. People make these decisions to find safety and a future for their family. Refugee is simply a classification that the world has created to deal with the issue of unregulated migration- but all displaced persons are people and people with families first. On world refugee day therefore I celebrate the bravery, the resilience and the strength of these people who despite finding themselves displaced look for hope in a brighter future in the face of despair. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Please consider supporting the Edmund Rice Centre donate.erc.org.au/Appeal24

Ecosystem Program Manager for Conecta in SA at Bridge for Billions | Entrepreneurship | Social Impact | Training and Facilitation
On World Refugee Day, we honor the courage of millions who flee their homes seeking safety from fear, conflict, and persecution. Refugees display incredible resilience and innovation as they rebuild their lives and contribute to new communities. However, celebration alone is not enough. World Refugee Day calls us to action, urging us to move beyond words of solidarity on social media to tangible actions that support and uplift refugees. Here are meaningful ways we can show solidarity: Open Our Doors and Hearts: Support welcoming policies and resist discrimination. Celebrate Their Strengths: Acknowledge and share their contributions and stories. Reflect on Challenges: Educate ourselves and others about their struggles and the root causes of displacement. Volunteer and Donate: Offer time, resources, and professional services to refugee support organizations. Advocate for Change: Engage in efforts to protect refugee rights and push for supportive policies. Today, let's commit to creating a world where safety is a basic human right for all. How will you contribute to making this vision a reality? Together, we can build a more inclusive, compassionate, and just world.

⏳ We often think of displacement as a temporary situation. Yet, 67% of displaced people have been outside of their home countries for at least 5 years. 🗓 Long-term displacement is the reality and we need policies that help people plan for the future.
